Happy Days!

"Long after I rest, my steel will live on"
Just received a golden ticket... At the recommendation of my girlfriend's father, I got in touch with Cooper Classic Cars in Manhattan... for those that don't know them, take a look at their site and get excited at the beautiful cars they have.

http://www.cooperclassiccars.com/

Now, I wrote a brief email (about three paragraphs) describing my passion for vintage cars and motorcycles and how they are, in essence, my life.

5 minutes later, I received a reply. Two words...

"Call me."

Now, at first I thought it was an automatic response. I mean, who wouldn't? Then I took a closer look at it, and I realized a very important detail.

It came directly from the president. So, after taking all of about 20 seconds to calm myself and remember how to dial a phone number, I contacted the president, or rather his secretary, who quickly patched me over.

To say the least, he addressed me by my name and seemed to enjoy me calling him so quickly. And, well, I've got myself an interview tomorrow at 2. He wanted to do it earlier, but I had class so I asked him as nicely as possible if we could do another time.

Happy days. This is extremely exciting for me, as I have walked by the gallery multiple times and never actually dreamed of setting foot inside for anything other than looking slack jawed at the pristine classics.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks buddy! Too bad for my girlfriend, I'm going to have to shave and cut my hair. hehe :)

I'd work there even if it it was sweeping the parking lot and detailing the door knobs. Heh

How about if it were detailing the President's knob?

woah woah sonreir... lets not get nasty now... you can cut me up all you want, but the beave deserves none of that... the man is just about the nicest guy i have ever met.

also, funny you should mention sweeping the parking lot... an excerpt from my email...

"I do not mind if I have to sweep the shop and do all the dirty work to earn my rank; I will do so with the utmost attention to detail".

All that collage to wash cars

I haven't made any collages lately... have you?

College, on the other hand, grants me no recommendations. Washing cars, though, at least in THIS case, provides me with a very good reference, that is, of course, if I do happen to do well tomorrow.

Also, I'm aiming to do a bit more than washing cars. And I am still attending classes in the mean time.

Just dont let them see your build thread.

hehe, nope... they just get to see a select few of my better photographs which detail my work.

Good Luck Rocan!!! If you can't dazzle them with science, baffle them with bullshit!

One tip. When you get there make yourself indispensable. They can't fire what they can't do without.

thanks hoof! those are some wise words. I'll be sure to sprinkle my dinner with a little bit of bonne' salt for good luck. :)

My only suggestion is don't plaster the web with the fact you're getting an interview with a potential employer. Employers don't often necessarily like to publicize their hiring, and will be looking at potential employee's Facebook profiles etc. for a sense of who they're interviewing, their level of professionalism, discretion etc.

Good tip Tim, every Resume dropped off to me got the Facebook and twitter check pre-interview.

Hate to say it but 60% got tossed out after that

Their not really hiring, and its just an interview for an internship, so no real harm done, hopefully.

I will take any insult or jibe from anyone displaying a PPG for an avatar (though my favorite and personal hero is Buttercup).

Go in there and rock the interview. That's all there is to it. Just don't be late. heh

Excellent man. Hopefully it helps feed the need for more knowledge and maybe even puts a few bucks in your pocket. Let us know how it goes.

EDIT: Oh shit, I just looked at the site. That's really cool but not what I was thinking. I thought it was a technician job. Either way it still looks like an awesome place to spend your summer break. Especially if you get to drive anything pictured there.

thanks elliot!

Look up the president... really cool guy and definitely the kind of person you want to have as a friend.

Anyone see the Transformers Dark side of the moon? Rich guys from that part of the country with tons of beautiful cars always work for the Decipticons.

welllll.... The interview went well enough... lasted all of about 4 minutes, then he asked me

"are you good at finding things?"

and I felt my heart jump out of my ribs, as I realized all of those years of searching the internet were about to pay off. I chuckled and said,

"It is funny you should say that, it is my forte."

So he asked me to find him a pristine Ford Falcon Convertible, sat me down at a computer, and that was it.

Lets just say, I made him very happy, found him a sweet corvair as well, and a 1954 corvette... to say the least, tomorrow I am going with one of his longest standing employees to an Ebay convention, and he even trusted me to drive his BMW X3. He said very kind words about me, and... I have to say, I am about as cheerful as any man can be.

I literally get to sit around above a priceless collection of cars, directly below the boss himself, scavenging the web all day for rare cars and sending pictures to clients. I'm in an office with three other people; another young gentleman who takes care of finding cars and arranging them with the clients, a salesman (the longest standing employee), and the book keeper.

This is a dream come true. I am beyond words, and probably wont be able to get to sleep tonight because of my excitement!
