Been riding for a few years, just recently have started looking into my first cafe build. Thought I'd stop in and say hi.

Welcome to the site! Ive seen some nice Virago builds. Your best bet for choosing a bike is to browse around the big arse projects section and see what other people have done. You also should take into consideration what kind of riding you are going to be doing. Just buzzing around town, something small displacement should do ya good. Lots of highway cruising...pick a larger displacement ride. Do yer homework and it'll all come together before ya know it.
 
Welcomr to DTT. If you want to go vtwin, you have some options but it all comes down to how much you can spend and how good you are at fab work.

If it was me, I'd go with a 1200 Sporty. The Virago cafes (some of them) out there are cool, but unless you have access to a full shop its a way more difficult project. My two cents...
 
The Virago is just a way more complicated machine all around. Its still just a mass produced motorcycle, so its not rocket science though. The Sportster is basically (if you stay mid 1990s and below) a 1950s era machine. As simple as it gets.
