Home made copper exhaust baffle

hehehehe, you old scalawag you. Well, for a few bucks in parts I may as well give her a try before I drop the cash on the Megaphones. . Refresh my memory on the I.D. of stock CB350 headers. I want to grab the parts from the hardware store on my way home.

That I am not sure of, I am a four cylinder guy, but I hope someone else can answer for ya. Let me know how you like them and for the welds use silva braze 15% solder, it holds well and can handle exhaust heat temps with out softening. That braze is a ton more expensive, but you will only need one or two sticks, so if you know any HVAC guys, try to buy just 2 sticks off of one to save you some chedda!

I think my buddy might have some from when he re plumbed his hot water lines. if not, someone on my street will have it. Lotta different contractors in my hood.

happy to hear that it's not too loud...
cb350 headers have an OD of 1.5", not sure about ID. the 2nd guy is using a 1" to 3/4" coupler with header wrap, i think that would fit just right in the pipes.
any ideas for securing the baffle in the pipe without drilling a hole in the header?
also, i have lead free silver solder that's rated at 420 F... is this good enough?

Should be, lead free and silver is what is important...I like 15% because it is easy to work with, but 5 or 6% will work even better for heat resistance. Sounds like you have 15% with that temp rate so you should be fine. What you have is in sticks right, not on a roll?

it's on a roll, plumbing style... is there a difference? i've also got electronics lead-free solder, in rolls as well.

I have never used the stuff on a roll for silver solder, I am not sure but I think it may be too soft! I have never used it though so if you do and it works please let me know!

guys i am getting my cb350 headers tommarow is there anyway you can run these baffles with pod filters?? im not super familar with jetting stuff...but i need to know what im gonna do for baffles/mufflers, and i am running a low profile "drag pipe set up".

I would jet for the pipes and pods. But the baffles will work.
As a side note, my bike shot a baffle out yesterday on my way to work. I have no idea where it went. I looked for a while but found nothing. It's okay though, because the baffle for my 4 into 1 should be here today or tomorrow, so I'll just throw the 4 into 1 on when it comes in.

this will be perfect for my savage project! is there any reason steel couldn't be used instead of copper?

So you guys just put these in straight pipes you make and then clamp or weld them to the header?

i know this is older but im making the baffles that had the actual pictures taken from earlier in the thread. everything is pretty straight forward and i have all my materials but how did you get the exhaust wrap to stay in place? i just need it to stay long enough to get it in place. if i just threw some super glue under you think there would be any ill effect?

If I was to do it over again I'd go a little tighter that 3/4" on the baffle. Still pretty damn loud. Rode the bike for about three hundred miles and had to put earplugs in to relieve the headache. Shorter commuting and it's fine though.

I used the baffles I made for a most of a season and for a while I considered adding on some tips w/ turn-downs to try and deflect some of the sound. I ended up switching to the Emgo Shorties and am, to my surprise, happier w/ the sound. They are a bit quieter than the home-made baffles, but I like the quality of the sound better... it's not as ragged and sounds more high performance instead of being just loud. The baffles were much better than straight pipes by far, but somehow the little mufflers just seemed to tidy things up, sound-wise. Just my $0.02 worth.

Safety or aviation wire.
