Honda CB 360 - Keiryō Café Racer Project

Yup. I stripped my gas tank with a paint brush and microfiber cloth. ;D

Oh well, burnt my calories for today :p

But I know one thing; besides getting me a new wire brush tomorrow, I will be looking for this stuff at the store! :p

It comes in aerosol as well as the paint-on style. The latter is more effective, but the former is a little bit easier to use. Be sure to wear gloves (thick dish-washing types, not disposables; they'll melt) and a respirator. This stuff is about as nasty as it comes.

Got just as much from watching the video... if age old paint come off as quick as that, your skin will be coming off too

Still thanks for the heads up ;D

Be cautious of getting it on clothing and then brushing your arms or any uncovered skin through it... It stings pretty good.

Tried every Rust-Oleum dealer in the area... not a single one could help me out. Pretty bummed. So I got myself a fresh wire brush and finished the job the hard way. Worth it all, in the end! ;D

As I screwed the fuel cap in I had an idea... quick to it!

Bare is better! ;)

I'm so looking forward to just sticking together the engine. Even if it was just to marvel at the prettiness of the thing. Painted the crank cases and had already the rest of the motor in the alu-zinc... just, quick... put it all together to look at it ::)

Clearing the displacement number on the cylinder block bit isn't very original, but it looks the part, doesn't it? :)

Also got some parts in again. Too bad for one of those... had bought a P08 Brembo caliper off of the local classifieds site; to wide, won't fit! :(

The other package however had me smiling from ear to ear! The we're new rockers but what I liked most was the surprise the seller had added 8)

The original issue of the 1974 Moto73 (Dutch bike mag, still existing today) featuring the introduction of the CB 360! (and the 125, 200 and 250) ;D

Tried to moun the valves yesterday. Fudged that up quite nicely. Needed to return the valve clamp so I thought I 'just' fix that. Big mistake that turned out to be... accidentilly pulled two of the valve stem seals apart, another was crooked and the fourth I now dare not fit. :(

Turns out not even CMSNL has these in stock, my own Honda dealership couldn't get them and in Europe they're only sold in full overhaul gasket kits like the one my stem seals came in... cr*p. :-X If I want to get this done before next weekend (when I REALLY need to get the valve clamp back) I haven't got much of a choice I guess :-\

Anyone got a top tip on properly mounting those buggers?

Today I went and did some small jobs of which I didn't take any pictures, sadly. Not worth showing either... just tore the stand out and the toolbox (found out it's still complete, which is pretty cool ;D ) but otherwise nothing exciting. Except for when the mail came in :D

Old school packaging and kanji on the wrapping... sender: Hong-Kong ;D

My clip ons! Just had to fit them right away.

Like I said, I'm a pretty big guy so like my bars wide. Tried 'em out and the seating position isn't all that uncomfortable. It's actually quite good. If I toe up on my pegs it kind of resembles my 125 Factory :p

They were dead cheap but really don't look too shabby!

Crazily light too!

Talking about light... just after dinner cleaning up the shop I couldn't help mounting the carbon fiber bars ;D

The detail shot of the clamp looks even better with the carbon bar ;)

Those rearsets have to come in really quickly... want to carry on!

He man, leuk topic zover! We hebben (als hollanders :p) een eigen plekje hier;

mocht je je vervelen ;)

Waar zit je ergens in NL? Of heb ik er overheen gelezen?

Those clipons are the same ones I'm using. I don't have carbon bars but man those look trick!!
What exactly happened to your stem seals? I usually hold the valve in the head or just set the head down so they don't fall out, put a very light amount of pro circuit seal grease on the valve stem and the inside of the seal, cover the end of the stem with a thin plastic bag (usually a ziplock bag with the zipper cut off and cut short) and gently work the seal onto the stem passing the bag then push them onto the guide. A lot of people just push them on the guide then push the valve through as well.

They really do don't they!?

I mounted them dry for starters. Heard that's not the way to go. So I'll start by oiling them a bit next time 'round. :p

Kun je me anders even mailen op nick punt enghardt apending gmail punt com? :)

Bert Jan was saying he might have some valve seals lying around for me... which is grand! Fellow Dutchy helping me out saves me the trouble of getting a full gasket kit from the Germans :)

Today was another day of minimal labor. Had a night on the town with friends and the ale stung me pretty badly :')

Did get another part in today. A tank I could have of a friend for a case of beer. Who am I not to trade alcoholic beverages for motor parts, right?

Pretty danged up CB 400 tank. Said it'd look just right. Not as wide, slightly shorter. Came with a key and everything. And besides a monumental dent it's paint wise not that bad actually! Might patch 'er up and sell it on :)

Once on the bike it was a clear cut deal. It was an absolute no go. Too short making it look stubby. I don't want stubby. I want a noble looking bike and the long (be it, slightly broad) 900 tank is way better at this :) As you can see.

It wasn't all a loss though. Like I said, the 400 tank came with a clamp, lock and key. Fits right on the 900 tank ;)

Doesn't look to shabby either ;D

Had some non-bike related work to do earlier this week, so no time in the shop... got a couple of small parts in yesterday though :) Wheel spacers and...

225390_10200283830885764_1782712351_n.jpg

A plug for the starter motor :) Made of PVC with a viton O-ring. Hammered in place. Won't move an milimeter :D

Besides lowering the unsprung weight (right... :') ) it also looks pretty and... I can ditch the speedo drive!

549976_10200283831485779_1604920576_n.jpg

Spacers for the back as well.

And really they're loads lighter! Stock spacers weigh in at 230 grams and the alloy ones only weigh 80 grams!

406211_10200283831005767_2075375287_n.jpg

Like I said... looks pretty too!

553141_10200283831565781_537189106_n.jpg

Final bit I started working on. Fender taped up and waxed... Anyone got an idea what I'm up to? ;)

Eugene, Oregon seems to be a way away from Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Took 'em long enough, but my rear sets are in.

480136_10200302481872027_852303450_n.jpg

Couple things; the color. Thought black would look fancy... doesn't. Looks really cheap. So we'll be filing that off. Clear should look loads better.

Second thing I'm not liking about my new received foot controls... the connecting rods. Steel? Come on! How hard is it to add stainless? This'll be flat orange if you as much as think of rain. :-\

Luckily stainless isn't expensive. Probably have some lying around the shop anyways.

Prettier alloy parts had found their way to me to make my day. The Germans have come through... they should, broke the friggin' bank for these but they're sooooo trick!

12130_10200302481752024_1874234277_n.jpg

Fully adjustable and real neat. ;D

Only issue I found is that I haven't got the slightest clue what sort of headlight I want to get. Want it to be a bit modern but not too much... LEDs maybe? Black, that's for certain.

Another day passed and the delivery guy found it's way to my door once again. He rather annoyed asked (well, more or less told me) 'You do order a lot, don't you?'. Have yet to figure out whether his question was retorical or not, since he's the guy that brings my all my stuff... he'd ought to know!

Anyhow! Got my carbon fiber in again! :D

482542_10200307630920750_1055042301_n.jpg

Fresh weave on the roll. Just a meter by half a meter. Should have ordered like three meters, come to think of it. Can never have enough of the stuff.

Also in the mail; my ever favored Renthal firm grips. Look nice, grip well, don't wear to fast. And a second hand Goodridge stainless brake line. For looks and improved braking ;)

69627_10200307631160756_1965861267_n.jpg

Straight fitting at the bottom... for looks mostly. Just looks 'works' somehow. 8)

601642_10200307631360761_1327129051_n.jpg

Do need to get a list of the bolts I'm gonna need. This looks sad... fresh paint, fresh line, rusty bolts.

Then went and put on my coveralls and got cracking with the carbon fiber and resin!

417665_10200307631920775_1293422141_n.jpg

Second layer just on. Got my camera stuck to my hand... :-X

734026_10200307631960776_1247706424_n.jpg

And at the end of the afternoon I could pop the fiber part off the fender and trimmed it a bit.

541004_10200307632760796_1559131493_n.jpg

Will need finishing but I'm happy with how it came out for now! :)

Last but not least;

An aluminum swinger! *O*

549773_10200307632520790_1386654184_n.jpg

Tad longer, loads lighter. I'm gonna weigh it tomorrow, see what sort of weight I'm actually saving here. Will need loads of bushes and spacers to fit in proper. But it will eventually fit! :)

Keep y'all posted!
