Sorry for the out of focus pics but I was a bit too psyched to share the awesomeness :p

I really want to steel your idea. That looks awesome!!

Who did you go to for that, what I mean is, would a "chromer" be able to do that?

I know, right?! :p

I'm pretty sure I'm one of the first café racer builders to go with this approach and I can't make out why!? This looks way to trick not to do it ;D

A regular chromer can't do this. It's Titanium Nitride or TiNitride. Pretty specialistic stuff. Company I found don't do fork legs normally, but I had a chat with him (turned out his father is a former chief editor at the news paper I work at) and he came around.

Company normally does surface coatings for the medical industrie and they also do coatings for drill bits and such. So that's the sort of company you have to find and try to talk 'em into it :p

Balls, 150 for a piece of plastic?!

Indeed... painful purchase :-X

Get a friend that can machine parts for you... bet you can get an alloy one made for that sort of money :p

Here we go... layed the clear yesterday. As much as I liked the semi gloss black line, I like one in gloss even better!

Then had a day of reassembling the engine. Pistons in, cylinder block back in place, head mounted, cam shafted timed, valve clearences checked.

Starts to look like an actual motor again :)

But it's not all peachy... I really need to check the oil pump. It's the engine's main weak point... but even with an original Honda removal tool, I couldn't get the centrifugal filter thingy loose. Even went as far as to put the air gun on... not a flippin' milimeter! :(

Any thoughts? :-[

Isn't there a captive washer around the filter nut? You need to knock those flanges down first.

I see that you took the lower mounting tabs off the 750 tank; did you find that you needed to patch the tank up at all afterwards or anything? I'm thinking about doing likewise but don't want to accidentally open the tank up at its lowest point on both sides. Sorry if I missed this in your thread somewhere.

Paint looks really good

It would really be something I'd miss. I'll check tomorrow :p

And no, not leaking at all. Do have to say... I did use a resin tank coating on it but I think they're pretty solidly together around there :)

Wow, those fork tubes, the carbon seat and the paint on the bare tank looks immense...great work!
