How are these for knee dents? Too shallow?

So they're not perfectly even, but I'm going to Bondo them and get them even (and you can see where the bondo on the left side cracked when I was hammerin' away at it). I'm pretty plased with the shape (esp. the right side) but are they too shallow? What have you guys done on your tanks?

I think they look good...but how do the feel when you mock it up on your bike? Do your knees fit?

yeah, it feels pretty natural - I'm going to add rhino liner to them I think, after bondoing... Blue tank with white stripe, with white rhino liner kneepads? Yeeeah.

I'd make a cardboard template and use a black marker to draw out the indents you're going for to keep them symmetrical.

I'd go deeper too.

Looks like it's coming along though!

Looks like you dropped your bike over a bowling ball on both sides. Needs to be bigger, deeper and more defined. That crease doesn't help much though, maybe if you flatten it out?

The main crease, kind of between the 'wall' and 'roof' of the tank? How would I flatten that out, just from bangin' on it?

The crease that fades into the dent. I don't know if you can get it flat but at least fade it gradually into the dent. Try a flat nylon mallet, the yellow one and smooth with filler.

Have you seen the Sully's Garage video on this?

I did, yeah - used the same method.

So last night I banged away a lot more on it - a lot of the primer cracked and came off, but I got them a little deeper/more pronounced. I'll take a pic after some sanding/bondoing!

You can use some fishing line to "cut" away the adhesive. Then they should come off. Mine weren't stuck on that well and I just pulled them off carefully. They are somewhat flexible. Mine are anyway I guess.

I'd do a template to outline , draw guidelines for your dents, and go a tad deeper and further up the middle. Just my $0.02. The less Bondo, the better.

Yeah, that's what I've ended up doing - however the ridge in the 450 tank is kind of a bitch, and there was a fair amount of bondo already on the tank - I should be doing it this Saturday, we'll see how well I do!

bondo sucks! use dyna-lite body filler! so much easier to work with!

Ah, yes! I remembered you saying this somewhere but I couldn't remember where, and what the product was. I'm going to some specialized paint/body shop on saturday, I'll look for it!

I also just realized I have a heat gun - would that help at all for hammering this stuff?

Quick! patent that idea before someone else does! sounds like a quick and easy way to do knee dents ;D

The tank looks better now. I like
