Inherited Grandpa's old Bike. Cafe Time!

I will definitely buy those then. But why those over the shiny mesh looking cones?

Stay away from EMGO shite and anything made in china (without branding)... the UNI's are the easiest to clean and reuse NEVER clean with gas use filter cleaner or dish soap and only use MAXIMA Fab-1 filter oil, in a bag, squeeze into filter then squeeze in a towel to remove excess.

Maybe they're a bit more restrictive once oiled? I'm not entirely sure. I've got the uni pods on my 550 and the tuning was a bitch. Bottom line. That and with a stiff crosswind, it'll cut out on me. I'm trying to piece together an airbox for mine as I type this. Aftermarket drop in filter + 4into1 exhaust = easier tuning and a sweet sound that will make you forget about pods. Just my opinion.

Any bike with pods will act up in crosswinds, period.

Make an airbox instead. Pods are for drag bikes and pictures.

Correct, they can and will restrict flow and another good reason for using them, but not as much as the but plug emgo cones and if you are skilled in oiling filters the saturation will be consistent.

The bike I'm working on now I designed the oil tank to sit close into the pods to lessen the wind and create a small amount of pressure in the area between the head and oil tank, my legs run down flanking the pods also so crosswind is less a problem.

Tuning will never be precise, jetting is part science, part skill and part just fuckin been doing it for 35 years haha. but these classics are supposed to be a little tough, kind of like the ole Chevy truck, you have to tinker here and again... that's the point ya know

For the most part... if you want a pull the trigger and go bike... they have so many supper trick bad to the dang bone 2016's with FI on the showroom floor ;D

Ok well I guess there is no need to fix what isn't broken. If I'm being honest with myself then I can admit that I only wanted the pods for purdy pickchures. But I really do hate these rubber boots and the stiffness to them. Im going to research some alternatives tonight.

Ok big guy... do yourself a favor and buy some new manifolds and velocity stacks for the air box if you plan to use it, those stiff rubbers will leak dirt right into the carbs around the box and velos, and the manifolds will not clamp up tight withou a soak or heat, in fact I've seen the velos where you can shake the box and they rattle LEAK! as evedenced by the dirt in the carbs that looks like it sprinkled on the windshield with dust on it

Rookie questions alert--------->>>> New manifolds? as in the aluminum intake manifolds? And do velocity stacks replace the rubber boots? Ive seen other bikes where they use velocity stacks alone with no airbox.

Yeah, but if you buy one of those go fast bikes you're gonna be like all the others. Plus, I can't imagine a trip out without the tooth shattering ride, the rear drum that sticks on occasion, the slightly rich smell from my over fattened pilot circuit, the little twitch in the speedo when the revs climb... It's like a nightmare, except when I wake up I can't stop smiling.

All above good advice is obviously from experience.

Custom airbox. I heard it's gonna be a trend soon.

Ha. Made myself laugh.

Lots to think about huh? One of my hundred shop mottos: Its only a motorcycle.

Another shop motto: Fuckin Hondas.

Velocity stacks are also a stock component. Not just spun aluminum. Learning learning learning!

Publish dem words man haha

lol. I run my personal bikes fat on the pilot just so I can smell unburnt fuel all the time. gotta clean em out just like a two stroke sometimes!

It just seemed to give me the smoothest transition from idle to 1/4> throttle. And you're right "fuckin hondas" gets thrown around my humble shop all the time. Usually followed by an adult beverage.

Sorry to thread jack
Airbox seems to be the concensus. You'll be chewing up stock v8 "muscle" cars in no time.

HAHA yesir each one of those rubber tubes goin from those tubes in front of those fuel mixin contraptions I call a manifold believe it er nort, it's a cross from the auto world in my mind... those tubes goin the odder way er VELOCITY stacks made by Mr. Honda to properly flow air into yer cickles *venturi (nuther new word) believer er naught that set of stacks has beed dulicated in more than a few of the aley spun bullet stufs.

* venturi
noun ven·tu·ri \ven-ˈtu̇r-ē\
Definition of VENTURI
: a short tube with a tapering constriction in the middle that causes an increase in the velocity of flow of a fluid and a corresponding decrease in fluid pressure and that is used especially in measuring fluid flow or for creating a suction (as for driving aircraft instruments or drawing fuel into the flow stream of a carburetor)

genius, Huh?

HA Yes, boundary layers tune. We need details on laminar flow and boundary layers.

Da fuck? I can show you in person what boundaries are and layered cake with butter cream frosting is dang good...

Pissin on yer grass won't make mine grow

"stock" Uni replacement : https://www.denniskirk.com/uni/factory-air-filter-nu-4055.p30803.prd/30803.sku

I've run these pods on 2 of my CB500/550's without issues. No drivabilty issues that I've noticed, including crosswinds. Running 110's on the main and depending upon exhaust you might need to bump up the pilot one, usually you can adjust the mixture screws to compensate. My crossover exhaust is a little different than yours.

New boots to the airbox: http://4into1.com/air-box-adapter-set-honda-cb500k-cb550k-cb550f/

Be careful, 4into1 will take a lot of your money :)
