J-Rod's 82 CB750- AKA Giselle

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

That'll come along with high airflow, high humidity. I'll be ditching the velo stacks in leiu of sufficient filtering that I can tinker to restrict air flow.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Sadly, not much progress in the last few days. Have been busy with a couple one off parts for customers, and getting rearsets stocked back up.

I did have a spare few minutes late last night to get a mold gel coated, and 15 minutes this morning to get my fairing laid up.

Shift linkage cut, drilled, and tapped.

Getting some new rearsets made so I can put a different offset from the ones I have on it currently.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Have been so busy working on other people's parts, I haven't had time to get to my own.

Hoping to get the exhaust finished up this weekend, broken down, frame and engine painted and have her on the road next week sometime.

Still undecided on wheel color. Blue to match the frame, or the same color as the body work.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Well, she runs, she rides. Still have to fabricate the reverse cones and baffles for the exhaust. She's obnoxiously loud as is. Going to have some stainless steel vinyl emblems made with the Slipstream Cycle Works logo for the tank. Within a few days of a full break down and paint for the frame and engine. Oh, and neoprene for the seat pan.

The tank and seat really contribute to it's stance. Looks good. What color are you painting the frame?

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

I played around with building a tank for it, and going with a different seat pan, but, personally, I think this combo looks stellar. That tank has nice lines.

Thinking Bahama Blue with some cobalt blue and silver flake with wheels to match.

Ooooo looking very nice. Excellent stance, these DOHC's look great with the slightly lowered front end. Just curious, your glass fab skills are off the charts. Do you also sell that front fairing?

Yes sir, I do. They are $118 shipped to your door.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

I have seen a few others doing SSSA conversions on the DOHC. The best fit (and my opinion), best looking one is the Ducati 748. It requires the least amount of machine work to get centered. Followed by the VFR400. But, the 400 wheel is God awful, and it takes a bit of machine work to get the VFR750/800 eccentric/wheel to lace up. I picked up a VFR750, VFR400, and the 748 swingarm to see which I liked the best, hands down the 748. It increased wheelbase by right at 2". The VFR750 was more, the VFR400 was right at 2" as well, but a whole lot more work to center and get a good looking wheel on it.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Progress has been slow.

Though, I'm just about finished with the CB500 I posted on the first page as well. Decided we're going to build it to sell, to fund other projects we have on the shelf. Have been super busy with machine work.

As long as I have the 750 completely buttoned up by Barber, I'll be happy.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

This is how she sits at the moment. All it needs is paint. And, of course, the time to break it down and prep everything.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

2 cents worth of advice, for free:

Before stripping down for paint, finish the exhaust and get the bike out for some nominal shake-down running including varying road conditions, highway, etc.

The above advice is worth what you paid for it.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

I've been riding it. Next is the dyno to get the carbs tuned. I've got to make some baffles for the exhaust before I take it in, though.

How does it handle? Stable at speed, especially heeled over on sweeping curves? You DO NOT want "surprises" if it decides it doesn't want to be compliant when leaning over AND traversing bumps...

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

This isn't my first bike build.

It handles well. I'm going to quieten in down a bit more than I have thus far. Still a bit loud, but building another set of baffles is easy. It handles well. I've had it up to right around 100. Stable as can be. Corners decently. It is being build for what the title says. A bar hopper, take to bike nights, let everyone ogle her, ask where parts I build come from, then they buy said parts, and to carry to shows. It draws a ton of attention as it sets, which translates in to sales. I'll have her, and the display she'll sit on finished up before my next big meet.

I have other bikes for daily riders, to get out and ride the mountains, etc. Right now, the daily is an XS650. I have the tank left to paint on a CB500, and she'll be finished and next in line for a whole lot of miles.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

After a few weeks of 20+ hour days working a machine work job for a prototype for a nuclear plant in PA, I finally have some down time to finish this damn thing. Going to take her to a tuning shop next weekend, throw her on the dyno and get the carbs perfect. Then, break it down and paint it.

Then again, who knows who is going to call wanting machine work done. This has been a frustrating project. Think I have some time to wrap her up, and someone calls wanting work done. At least the jobs are going to pay for that new Speed Triple I want.
