Jake's 1973 XL285-Single "Brat-Tracker?¿" Build - UPDATED Nov. 28, 2011(1stpage)

This is the EXACT same build I have been wanting to do for a Tracker. I missed out today on a Suzuki TS185. Very inspiring build!

Wow man. That thing looks like it would be really fun to ride... shocks, pegs, LUCKY. ;D This makes me want to build something based on a bike like this. Great pics too!

"Shocks-Pegs-Lucky" haha Thanks for the positive feedback! The lever assembles are aftermarket to answer the question. Yeah, it's a fun bike to ride, I'm just so freeking nervous the whole time that I'm going to mess it up. haha I only have about 5 hours of riding time on it to be honest.

Looks awesome Jake! My XL250 is at Twinline getting a custom exhaust and I'm totally stealing that pipe you did - its perfect. Did you bend that custom or use some other bike's pipe?

this looks so damn good!
it epitomises the brat-tracker idea... completely.

Your XL on Pipeburn! Congrats!

Jake that is awesome! Congratulations man its totally deserved - hope to see the bike in person - lets meet this spring at a Backfire moto night
Mark

Haha, those are the only two questions I've received. I made the exhaust, and the battery is ... not there. kick starter, son.

Hey Jake..........I have the same build going on and I love how you ran the front wheel off of a CB360 (I have that bike as well). I was wondering if you could tell me the issues with the triple trees? Is it just the stem on the 360 needs to be longer so that is why you graphed the 250's over? Is there a reason why you couldn't run the 250's triple trees and forks with the 360's front wheel?

I am sure I am missing something........

Great build by the way. Gives me alot of inspiration for mine.

Love this thing man, congrats on pipeburn

Just skimmed through this thread and I am very impressed by the work you've put into this bike. Definitely inspirational to me building my own. I am actually looking for a similar set of handlebars. Would you mind telling me the brand and specs of it?

I know it's about forever ago since this thread was going but I am doing a similar build. By similar build I mean straight pipe, 285cc big bore kit, and a 34mm mikuni carb with a k&n air filter my question in what should I jet the carb to. I'm asking here since we practically have the same build. FYI this bike was the one that motivated me to do my xl285 build. By far this is my favorite bike out there

34 too big
