Keep or sell: Thruxton and CB750

It's difficult to get too wrapped up in the British vs Japanese when Triumph's classic range is built in Thailand.

Keep the one that stirs your soul.

Basement Rat took the words right outta my mouth. I think your family's moto heritage is important. It's why you chose the Thruxton in the first place, right? You should keep the Honda 'cause it's cheap. Make some money on the Thux and save up for a classic brit bike of your choice. The Honda will be a good daily rider while you wrench on the new project.
I wish I had the money to take the Thruxton off your hands. ;)

Ya... If it was a 60's or 70's trumpet, Id say keep it. The "hondas are a dime a dozen" comment is only partially true. Its a custom bike you have poured your heart into. Theres at least 4 new Thruxtons in the town I live in alone. No custom built CB750s though. Youve already made up your mind though, so it doesnt matter, but that Thruxton is the epitome of "dime a dozen". Its a "factory custom". I dig em' but there is nothing special about it.

Triumph's are more rare than Honda CB's. Anyone who argues against that has an axe to grind. Just look at numbers, or any of the popular moto sites (pipeburn, bike exif, motorcycle pic of the day, etc). Every other post is a Japanese bike and every 3rd post is a Honda. They sold 250,000 CB450's in the United States alone. If the conversation is about rarity, which it seems to have become, then any Triumph is more rare than a CBxxx.

Don't get me wrong. I have a 450 and I love Honda's. I was just saying, to me, the Thruxton is better in every way. To you folks who are clearly geared towards vintage cafe racers I can understand why you'd be partial to the CB.

Anyway. No one should take what I wrote as a challenge. If we all agreed the place would be fucking boring.

No no no... I didnt mean that to come across as an argument. Im sorry man. The 750 in question is not just a stock CB though. Youre right, they made a million old Hondas. And yeah, they will always make less Triumphs. But, the Honda were talking about isnt the same old Honda. He custom built the bike. It share some design elements, just as any bike will, but its one of a kind. That Thruxton looks just like EVERY other Thruxton out there. It is just like EVERY other Thruxton out there. I love Triumphs, and will own one someday. For the sake of the (now pontless) discussion he had started though, that Thruxton just doesnt have any soul. Its a showroom bike. A reliable, good looking bike, but a stock bike that has nothing too interesting going on. The 750 on the other hand...

And on a side note, ditch that Boxter and get a vintage 911. Boxters are for middle aged women. ;)

Mmmmmmm...... Women. I love women!
Now this conversation has covered all of what's important in life, bikes, Porsches, and women. It's the perfect thread. Only one thing could make it better, someone mention dark beer and it will be complete!

I get what you're saying, and yeah I agree for the most part. Did he already decide??

Snicker*

Funnies. I'd love an older 911. I hear they're not that expensive now!

This one time I saw a hot chick in a Porsche that was hauling a trailer full of vintage bikes and she was drinking a Young's Double Chocolate Stout. But she wasn't driving. There was another tasty young lady in the driver seat. And she was eating a popsicle. I think it was a push-up.

(That doesn't sound made up at all)

id say keep both , having the reliability of a newer bike is a great thing to have. old bikes are awesome but if i could afford to have one along with my oldies that i could count on 100% of the time , I would . Nothings more frustrating then while everyone else is riding your wrenching

I may just get the CB back, build it back up with the new dash and tank, and then make a final decision. I dunno, it is so difficult to decide! Keeping both would be great, but insurance for both is a bit much and I should be doing anything possible to pay down the debt right away if I am keeping the Thruxton.

Thanks alot for all of your opinions guys/gals :) Older porsche would be great, but you would need 2 cars forsure. A Boxster could more or less pass as a daily.

Good luck with your choice!
The availability of parts and support for the Honda makes it a very easy keep.
Even if the Thrux is hawttttt, follow your gut. Seems like the thrux may get a bit boring after a while. And with that much credit on it, I can imagine taking a cutter to it or other big mods is like taking a saw to your leg. But if you do mod the hell out of the thrux you'll have a sweet bike and have the heart invested in it. ...Just to make the decision harder ;)

I know you'll figure out a good solution.
and Boxter is a sweet choice, old porsches are nice in an oversteeeeeer kinda way.

ehhh... ditch the thruxton... every other hipster, on queen st E has one...
Get a cb750 bobber hardtail and swap the plates for which ever bike you fancy that day...
