Krazy Katana

That's what I was thinking. Just thought I'd ask anyways. Not too mad, since it's already a few years old.
Checked under the liner and there are a couple sizable dents in the foam, so it's time for a new helmet. Any suggestions for a good sub-$200 helmet? I saw the Bell Qualifier and was thinking about that. Only complaint I heard is that it can be a bit noisy, but I usually have a headphone in anyways.

Not that high, but it does have a high idle. There's some funky tuning from the po that I've been on and off trying to figure out, but I've just been riding it in the meantime. Have a feeling there's a vacuum leak somewhere that I haven't been able to find yet.

yes it was exxaggeration but you have got to be close to 2000 rpm which means your pilots are being bypassed altogether. You've had this bike way too long to continue blaming the PO for the issues.

It's not funky tuning thats making it need to idle high to run its plugged pilots

first thing i'd do is pull the valve cover and see whats going on in there. sounds like valvetrain or piston slap from here but diagnosing sounds from video is throwing darts and hoping

Yes, I admit it's my fault that I haven't dialed in the tuning.
The issue at hand right now though is that it sounds like a maraca is going of in my engine.
Will do on the valve check (once I get it home). I might just take it to the local shop and ask if they have a quick diagnosis they can make in person.

Wasn't planning on avoiding it, just wanted to see if anyone had a good place I should start or knew what it was.

Caleb im not trying to be a dick but how could anyone possibly know what that sound is lol you are basically on your own here man sorry. thats why i said valve cover first cuz its easy. After that well you might as well pull the engine because it is undoubtedly a mechanical issue.

The reason i mentioned your idle is because if its not running right it can break down. Next time tune your bike before you ride it day after day.

I know you're not haha. I understand it was kind of a Hail Mary to get an online diagnosis from an iPhone video.
Also probably not bad advice on the idle. Besides that it ran good so I figured it wasn't a huge issue. Honestly I did mean to have it fixed a LONG time ago but I've just been putting it off. Guess now is the time to do it with the amount of work I'm about to put in haha

ok now we are getting somewhere.

Pull all 4 plugs and post a pic of their condition.

Remember which one went in what hole, #1 is on the left as you sit on the bike.

Will do. Last time I pulled them 2-4 looked good but 1 was dark. I played a bit with pilot screw on 1, but this was at least a month ago.
Update: I should have the bike back home by about 2:30 or so, then I can start a quick teardown and see whats going on under the valve cover. Anything more than that will probably have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday. In case it ends up being serious I've found a couple Katana 600 parts/projects a few hours away that I could steal the motor from.

Here are the plugs

Top end looks good. Cam lobes look good, plenty of oil, and no signs of any damage. I think the issue is in the clutch or trans. Will pull the clutch cover off and poke around next.

Clutch looks okay. I don't see any metal in the oil. Cam timing is still good. However, I cannot rotate the engine more than 360*. I can go from TDC to TDC but that's it. The clutch inner spins fine (I'm in neutral) but something is hanging up.

Here are the plugs

None of them looks new, but number three is very different to the others and suggests broken rings or leaky valve seals or something equally sub optimal. Have you done a compression check and if so how were all 4?

Found this in the oil in the starter clutch cover.

Seems to be about the same radius as a cbr600f1 piston...
