No sweat guys. It ran ok, but never great. CV carbs are designed to work with the back-pressure that the air box creates, they will never run as well with pods. Just liek the KZ it ran ok, I got used to it, but when I put the air box on it blew my mind. I just didn't realize how much crap I'd been dealing with in terms of runability.
Another option is to use velocity stacks instead of pods if you're looking for something that breather better than stock. That has other issues associated and it can get expensive, though.
cool so i'm gonna search for some mikuni's on ebay or something see what i can stir up I really like the pod look dont wanna go back to the airbox at all. I guess i should stick with 32's?
elbes, if you're running mikunis on a KZ400 or 440 then likey the better option would be vm30's or even vm28's hinging on a stock motor with pipes. Built lumps will require more carb but I think you'll end up with a poor running bike with that much carb.
Chiming late on this one. I have pods with stock exhaust. It seems to run great. There is a flat spot 3-5k. Top speed, maybe 80,maybe. What characteristics does yours have pods vs. box??
Reelin you running CV keihns? I tossed the pods on and it idles like a dream revs up, its winter here right now so I haven't got it out on the road yet to see the performance. Tis the reason I'm asking about jetting at whatnot. Swagger you think 30's would be better? I just heard through another thread build on DTT that a guy used 32's only reason I suggested it. Heard a lot of ups and downs to running pods on this type of carb so don't wanna be disappointed is all.
I'm with elbes on this one. I really don't want to go back to the stock airbox, they are the opposite of the look I'm going for, but I also don't want my bike to be underperforming. I'm going to start looking for replacement carbs. Mikuni VM30's is what comes up for a Honda CL360 on DCC. Helloooo eBay! Would love to hear how a bike runs with Mikuni/pods if anyone has done it.
Thanks for letting us have our discussion on your thread Valves.
i have been fighting the same thing on my TX for a year. bike runs like crap with pods and v stacks... got rid of the cv carbs all togehter and got some VM30's hope that cures the issues i have been facing. i have the vm's in my snowmobiles and they are awesome to tune!
Yeah, I have several 500T and 450s.....the first thing I swap out?
The ragged ass garbage CV carbs.
Yes, you could probably eventually get them to run....close to....right.
No, they'll never be as good as $200 worth of Mikuni VMs and some elbow grease.
ebay search ZR440 carbs or arctic cat throttle, for soem reason the carbs come up on the searches... i got my last 2 sets for under 100 bucks for both... hunt man they are ouot there. alot of snowmobiles use the VM carbs
what is the exhaust you're using? im all so looking to find a 2-1 but over here in Germany this is the only thing i've found so far
