1960's (so I hear) possibly a sears jacket (tags have been ripped out, probably by pissed off teenager because his mom wouldn't buy him a Schott). My father owned it and rode in it, and now I do.

This one is a Vietnam war era G1 flight jacket that I found in an antique mall. Someone had replaced the cotton cuffs and waist with leather, and then they dyed the brown jacket black. These modifications led to a very low price, but since I wanted this for riding, I was stoked on the mods.

This is a pic, for no reason, of a few things (vintage and non-vintage) that make me happy...

i think when the jacket starts to wear in and the brown begins to show through, that jackets going to look amazing, depending on what brown it was before

After debating my choices for a while, I finally pulled the trigger on a BMG Montana last night. Eagerly awaiting delivery! Pics and a brief review to follow, once it arrives.

Has anyone tried sewing some armor/pads into a retro jacket? Best of both worlds if you could get it to work.

I have a MX full body armor, I have a leather jacket. It is a PITA to full the MX armor on underneath for a quick ride, and too hot as well.

Plus if you got to the shops or something, you could just slip the leathers off. With the MX armor would walk around like robocop.

it's called a tailor

Thanks for clarifying that.

But I was looking for first hand experience on whether it worked or if it was a cluster fuck.

Do you need to sew the armor to the lining only, or does it need to go through the leather as well?

You'll need to go up at least one size for the armor to fit right. I'd get someone to sew in some pockets for the armor pieces, which is how my current leather jacket is. No, I didn't do that to a vintage jacket, it's a Shift Diablo with CE rated armor in the elbows and shoulders. I need to get the back pad replaced with a real armor piece at some point.

Just pulled the trigger on this...
No doubt I will outrage all the haters

Thanks JR. Will see what I can work out. ;)

I'm looking at adding some of the D3O armor to my vintage Schott jacket - Icon sells the pieces separately: http://www.revzilla.com/icon-protection-armor

It looks like it's $65 for elbow pads, shoulder pads, and a back protector. I wonder if you could run thread through the D3O armor to attach it?

I bought an identical one years ago, but despite the XL label was too small for me. I had a watch on all the ebays for a larger one. This turned up on UK ebay. It's brand new with labels, not a replica and 3XL so I should be able to get some armour in the built in pockets.

Of course wearing it in public is illegal in New Zealand due to the tobacco advertising laws ($10,000 fine).

Weird that the XL was too small. How tall are you?

Stupid with a fine for wearing tobacco adv. what about F1 in New Zealand? They usually have Marl.
