That's Ed Fargo's build over at Elmoto. He built that so fast I could hardly believe it. The pack I plan on using is made up of lithium prismatic cells, meaning they have a square form factor. The pack is about 5KW, and should take me about 50 miles per charge, on average. Obviously more if I don't gun it off the line every time. The pack is good for 3,000 or so cycles, so I won't have to replace the cells for a theoretical 150,000 miles (nuts huh?). Depending on whether or not I fair my bike, I expect a top speed of around 70. More if I fair it. Total cost so far for my build (which largely consists of used parts) is:
Motor, controller, contactor, charger, throttles - 1000 bucks
Batteries with compression plates, bussbars, and shipping - 2,300 bucks
BMS - 250 bucks
Wire and various odds and ends will be another 150
Cycle Analyst to monitor my electrical system is another 150
So right now I'm at around 3,850 bucks. But I've been gathering things slowly over the course of a few years. So it hasn't hurt me too bad financially yet. When I can fill it for 50 cents, that'll feel pretty good.
