Let's talk electric motorcycles.

Been Around the Block
This is a dumping ground for some awesome electric motorcycles that have been built for both race and street. Some of them you've probably seen before.

I've been doing a ton of research for my own build. If you guys have any questions on electric bikes let me know.

More electric bikes.

Mission R: Super nice looking

Brammo Empulse: Not going to be available until next year. Something about a 6 speed gearbox.

I've been considering building one as well. What motor/ batteries are you using? The LiIons are still extremely pricey to do any real numbers in speed/ range. What is your target weight/ range/ top speed? This is my favorite build so far:

That's Ed Fargo's build over at Elmoto. He built that so fast I could hardly believe it. The pack I plan on using is made up of lithium prismatic cells, meaning they have a square form factor. The pack is about 5KW, and should take me about 50 miles per charge, on average. Obviously more if I don't gun it off the line every time. The pack is good for 3,000 or so cycles, so I won't have to replace the cells for a theoretical 150,000 miles (nuts huh?). Depending on whether or not I fair my bike, I expect a top speed of around 70. More if I fair it. Total cost so far for my build (which largely consists of used parts) is:

Motor, controller, contactor, charger, throttles - 1000 bucks
Batteries with compression plates, bussbars, and shipping - 2,300 bucks
BMS - 250 bucks
Wire and various odds and ends will be another 150
Cycle Analyst to monitor my electrical system is another 150

So right now I'm at around 3,850 bucks. But I've been gathering things slowly over the course of a few years. So it hasn't hurt me too bad financially yet. When I can fill it for 50 cents, that'll feel pretty good.

Thats awsome JP, Im excited to see how your build goes.

Where's your source for the used parts?
I'm totally interested in doing a build in the future.

There's a company up in Oregon that is in the process of moving, and they gave me a great deal on a bunch of components. They still have stuff available, if you wanted me to give you their contact.

Edit: just noticed the Weezer quote. Really love that album.

These are some really awsome designs. Beautiful bikes.

(nice catch! haha, i love that album. That drum sound does something to me)

I wish ihad the money to start my build now, so I gatta pass on the parts for now. btw are you going to post a build thread for your electric. I'd love to see that.
