loose wire. have no clue what it is.

It can do both. Buy an electronic flasher and see if that helps. It is a needed upgrade anyway.

I looked at the diagram on the first page and couldn't find the flasher. Where is it located and what does it look like?

If you have the stock one for the CL350 it should be a small silver cube with two prongs located under the seat to the rear of the battery. It is supported by a small rubber piece that fits on a clip that is bolted to the frame. It might even say "12V Flasher" right on it.

P.S. Since that wire by your headlight is black then it is very likely a powered wire. I would still trace it back to the component it came from.

Coalnation has it nailed most if not all Honda's of that age that have RUBBER mounted handle bars will have a black jumper wire with 2 ring terminals on it that is around 3-4 inches long. ONE end goes to the bottom of the handle bar holder under the nut, the other goes to the gauge mounts. It is there because the rubber isolates the handle bar switches from the rest of the bike and can make it so NONE or some of the electrics either don't work or work when they feel like it. That happens because ground for the bars THEN comes from the clutch cable and will flick in and out as the clutch handle is pulled. It can cause things like the bulbs and flashers to burnout, the bike to cut out, and general mayhem of ghosts that seem to come from no where. All from that silly little wire.

Its the only BLACK ground wire on the bike, probably that way so you notice it and wonder where the hell it came from. ;D Shitty thing is, its not on any of the diagrams or the parts fiches that I have ever seen and I spent many hours looking over them.

that's a first!

That's weird but definitely good to know. I wonder if it was something done after the fact at the factory or at the dealer. I have two Honda twins, one from 71 and one from 72, neither of which have that wire and both run fine. Now I'm thinking about adding it as a precautionary measure.

There's no telling where they came from, sure looks like an after thought when you first see them. My 71 and 72 Cb450s and my 74 CB 360 have them.
