The tail light is ok, it's too easy though, so I'll be making a new one out of brass on the lathe later on. I always let my bikes evolve, first goal is to get it on the road.
I saw it on le container as well, I was pleasantly surprised to find it on such a popular blog.
I was tempted to go with bars with a slight rise too, but I prefer these clip ons. They also make it easier to get the bike out of the garden (the entrance is a bit narrow). Not going with a headlight fairing, I like the square headlight.
So it was excellent to test the wiring loom I made. It was really enjoyable to ride. It just needs the stuff I ordered at Dime City, that'll come in this week I hope ( I have no clue how long shipping from the US to Europe takes and how long it takes to get trough customs), a new front tire and a seat. It's not my most radical build ever, but the ride is really good and the bike should be really usable.
Also took some time to experiment a bit with teh camera during the ride:
At the moment I'm just sitting on a steel plate (not as uncomfortable as it sounds). It'll get picked up by a seat upholstery guy on Sunday. He promised to bring some really funky colors to see what looks good, so I can't wait (but I already have a preference for dark red).
I used an oil based celarcoat by the name of Owatrol. Not too sure you can get it in the States as well, but I think so. It has held op very well so far, despite the leaking of the fuel cap.
Bought a new battery, got a new front tire yesterday, synched the carbs, checked the timing, made a make shift seat since the seat pan is still at the upholstery and took it for a ride. The last time I rode it it felt like it was running lean, but the plugs looked like it was running a little rich. I figured it might be the battery since the old battery was terrible so I was very happy to find out that it runs great with the new battery. The new front tire in combination with 750 front springs (the bike had 500 front springs when I bought it) made a huge difference too. So all in all: Very happy with the bike. Now it's just waiting for the seat, it should be here Wednesday.
I got the seat back from the upholsteruy guy this week!
Turned out very nice imho.
I do have a problem with the electrics now though. With ignition off the battery is 12.4 Volts, idling and in the lower RPM ranges (with the tail light on) the battery reads 12.2 Volts so it's actuallydraining the battery. In the high RPM ranges this goes up to 12.8 so there is a very, very small charge.
