Miob's CB750 cafeish-cruiserish bike thing

so awesome. This should be nom'd for BotM next month.

Thank you very much, but I don't agree about the BOTM. It's not even a true cafe.

It's only a mild rebuild (ok, maybe not so mild if you include all the f*** ups by the previous owner I had to restore). It's not all that different from a stock 750. I wanted a bike that would be more comfortable than my BMW (it is), that would seat two (it does, we went to a dinner with family last night, she was comfortable sitting behind me) and that would be able to be ridden in wet wetter (the BMW has velocity stacks, the CB filters). And it couldn't cost much money. I did the calculations last week and even including the new front tire the total amount spend is low. I reckon I would be able to get 2 to 3 times more for it if I sold it now than I spend on it. I'm not going to sell it anytime soon though.

Bollocks. ;)
The way you have mounted the tacho is sublime.
If you could bottle that and make it into a perfume it would be called 'Essence de Cafe'
:)

Thanks guys!

Found a new rear wheel today. The old one (on the photo's) is of a 500 and the rearsprocket is too small and cannot be replaced by a larger one (thus all the slag on the chain in the photo's so far). Took me all day to fit the 750 wheel into the 500 swingarm, but in the end it worked. The new rear tire is also a bit less skinny (130 instead of 120). This was the last major thing that needed to be done. Now it's just tuning the carbs a bit better and add some finishing touches.

And this is what it looks like with a fatter tire. Hard to see any difference...

I also finished the tanklogo for teh other side

Now it's some finishing touches and waiting for new main jets to come i and it'll be finished. Can't ride it though, Europe has turned white. This was my home town last Friday:

Since than a lot more snow has fallen. Looks great, but now I can't work on the next bike.... It's a Kawa Z400. It's not my bike, I'll finish it for someone else. Last summer I already mad a new wiring loom for it, now I'll do the finishing. Mainly making brackets for the lights, battery, rear fender and license plate (and a ton more of small things)

I'm doing it for fun, I can't afford a new project (I'm not going to sell the CB and selling the BMW is totally out of the question, I'd rather sell my girlfriend ;D). The owner only has to pay me for what I spend on materials, he'll get a ridable bike and I get to work on a bike without having to spend money. Win-win in my opinion.

I've been following your blog but I just found this thread! You ever solve the discharging problem? Same issue with my GS750, but I'm no sure if it's the wiring harness or me overloading the battery with a 139dB airhorn ;)

It turned out I don't really have a charging problem. I did clean all the contact surfaces of the charging system, but the low charge in the lower RPM's are normal (at least, that's what the guy of 'blauwe plaat', a CB specialist, said).

Good tghing, 'caus I can't afford a new rotor :)

new stator is worth it if you ask me... 250 bucks (for the cb350 one, at least) but you have a charge at 1500 rpm and up; good for those of us who ride in the city and cant always spool 4000 plus to get a charge. ;)

I don't have those 250 bucks to spend and as ling as it charges....

Took it onthe first ride of the year. It was cold and still slippery at places, but I had a great time going trough the old city and the coutryside:

Also started on the KZ400. Had to find a place to get the battery, regulator and rectifier as much out of view as possible:

I can now start on making the wires the right length and than the more fun part can start (making new parts like a side mount).

Thanks!

I was surprised he wanted the CB. Though I do love the bike, I don't think it's all that special, so when I opened his email and saw a link with the request for more information about the bike in the first two photo's in the link I automatically assumed without opening the link that he was talking about my BMW cafe racer, but he wasn't.

That's a great looking bike. I'm really tempted to redo mine and make it a lot cleaner than it is. don't get me wrong i'm very happy with my bike but after looking at bikes like yours and others on this site, I wish I would have taken my time and really hit up the detail work. Great bike!

so miob how did he know about your bike in the first place...or is it a member here?

Thanks!!

Today was the first sunny day with dry roads since I finished this bike. I had soooooo much fun with it. Been riding for 2-3 hours, would have been longer if it hadn't been that d*** cold. Felt a bit of a hooligan rding it :)

Anyway, when I got back my girlfriend wanted a go too, it was her first time on the CB and I wasn't too sure it wouldn't be too big or to heavy. She handled it just fine though, she even liked it a lot. Shot a few photo's, but the sun was already gone unfortunately.
