Montreal Manchild with an '81 Honda CB750K

Just realized there are no inside shots of the shop but a ton of outside and Barber shots:

I the dude passed out in half the pictures in the green shirt and hat.

Gassed and oiled the old girl up today and fired her up for the first time - man she literally leapt into life. Totally wasn't expecting that, thought there might be a bit of a cough and a splutter to clear the ol' pipes but no - she came out fighting. Thing is, the engine is revving pretty high (like the choke is pulled, but it wasn't - or the throttle was open but it wasn't either).

No doubt it could be one of a number of things, but might the vacuum sync bring those revs down? Not sure where to start, but I'm all ears.

Man it's good to hear Rhonda in full voice. She's a throaty little beast to be sure

How far out have you got the idle adjustment screw? There only needs to be the tiniest opening of the butterflies at idle - like cigarette paper thin.

6double and triple check how your carbs are fitted, too. The insulators get stiff and cause air leaks and fast idle issues.

The fit on carb 1 insulator might be a little off - think that might be it?

Could be for sure, all it takes is a leak on one to raise idle. and if one is lose the others could be without looking like it. quick test is spray some carb cleaner or starter fluid or wd-40 at the boot and see if it revs even more

I'd put money on the other carbs being good but then again I bet my buddy last night a lifetime supply of cheeseburgers he couldn't reconnect the choke cable with the carbs in place and he did.

Pull the carbs, get a better fit in the insulators and try again?

By insulators do you mean the rubber boots connecting to the head, right?

I'd sync it first with some good gauges. Until you do that you're just looking for problems where there may not be any. Proper sync on my 360 (different animal but same concept) brought my idle down from 1900 to 1200 just like that. It was idling at 1900 even after a good bench sync and I looked all around for vacuum leaks etc.

And like hillsy said make sure the throttle stop is just about all the way backed off. I like to back it out until the throttle linkage stops moving, then turn it in till it contacts and then go about a half turn from there depending on the bike.

Dude! It was totally a vacuum leak - pulled the carbs, heated up the boots and reseated them. Fired up like a champ and Rhonda sounds like a banshee.

Thanks a million one and all - not much of this would have happened without the help I've got here

Damn you're right. I should go to barber this fall, do u all go there and take your rides? We have a show in England called the Goodwood Revival which is a weekend of '40's to '60's race cars and bikes, my old man dusts off his old fedora and goes every year. Barber sounds like a great laugh - I'm in. So's the wife and Rhonda though they don't know it yet, leave them to me.

Didn't work for me. Best way to post a vid is to upload to YouTube, then paste the link in the box with one character (like a period . ) before the address.

A ton of dtt folks go to barber every year. We volunteer at the ace corner and hang out together. If yo think you can make it when it gets closer maybe we can meet and ride down together
