Motorcycle GPS

I've used my smart phone GPS a few times, but really didn't like it. Too much of a distraction on a bike I think. Plus my "old guy" vision makes it really hard to read the screen without wearing my reading glasses inside my helmet, which just adds to the distraction.

Be sure to download maps of where you're going for offline use. Too easy to get out in the boonies, lose your data signal and have
GPS but no map.

That's my reasoning for using a GPS rather than cell phone as it doesn't rely on a cell tower being in range (although I have no idea if cell phone GPS uses satellite data?)

I believe phones do use gps satellites. Many times when I've been in Vermont I've had gps but no data which makes it useless anyway. But I think there are some apps you can download to fix this. Also why not buy a Bluetooth for your helmet. I know my android gives turn by turn directions with street names so there is no need to even look at my phone when driving or riding. Sync the phone to the Bluetooth and you have the directions right in your ear. Unless of course you really just don't want to use your phone. There has to be a gps unit with Bluetooth capability.

Literally screwed back together and you still won't come to the future!

The ADV guys swear by the Garmin Montana, but the new Samsung Android tablets may give it a run for it's money. The apps are there and getting better by the month, it only remains to be seen if the tablet is as rugged as advertized.

Samsung just released a new galaxy s4 called the s4 active. The phone is nearly bulletproof. Scratch resistant, dust proof waterproof, and shock proof.
