Must see CX500. Never mind the dogs bollocks, what about the muts nuts!

50gary yep the rims are 17". As for the final drive..........not got a clue ;D
I did check the amount of turns on the CX and the NTV drive shaft to see if there was any difference but can't remmber what it was.
However there wasn't that much differance.

Next was the engine strip. Looked like the radiator had a leak at some time in it's life (pic 1) judging by the cyclinder water jacket.
Pic 2 all in bits ready for the shot blaster.

Rear sets are off a YZF 600, I liked them because they had about the same shape as the frame and whan in place had a nice hight to them whan on the bike.

Hay up MJP, thanks for watching the build.
Where in the world are you?
This is the link for a guy called Kirk, he list the more generic sizes and angles, however drop him a line with what ever you need and he can sort it at a good price.
I did a few drawings of what I wanted and let him know.
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Every-Exhaust-Part-Limited?_trksid=p2047675.l2568

damn im over state side, but have been doing some looking around.. i think ive sourced a good guy over here via ebay to do the bends i need.. but if i hit a dead end ill drop your man a line and see if he will ship over the pond.

if you are going to copy that exhaust go up to 1.75 pipe it will be to restrictive on that length in 1.5

You are joking about pipe?
1.75" is too big for an XS650, CX500 has less than 250cc in each cylinder, 1.25" is probably plenty

i have been building and racing/ developing cx motors and bikes since they came out

and have built hundreds of 500/650 motors

if you think 1.25 pipe is enough for the air flow generated by a cx crossflow head good luck to you

i run 1.75 on all my 500 as a bypass for the regular hbox and even running harley dyna mufflers at stock length

can get a little restrictive so i have to drill out the baffles

to add close to 3 ft of pipe plus the bends as on the bike in this article you would need at least 1 3/4

but wth i ony have 30 plus years with this bike lol

Me too, I worked on the original 1978 'plastic pig'
They work real well when you keep them spinning over 6k but destroy cam chain tensioners when ridden gently (and the bosses on crankcase)
Apart from that and water pump seals we didn't have too many problems with them (seized shock linkages on mono-shock)
I'm not exclusively CX though so I'll defer

I have my CX500 headers that I built a few years ago at 1.75" into a merge collector out of that at 2.125" into the mid-pipe and into a cut down (12" L.O.A.) carbon sport bike can. I don't have a cam but I do have flat slide carburetors.
Cheers, 50gary
