New CL100 Owner

Nice work. Come to think of it, I'm gonna need to get that clamp insulator also. Do you happen to know the part name or number for that?

I'll PM you the info. They're $15 a piece, though. Ouch [insert trek's snowball cartoon here]. You might want to wait to see if trek or somebody more knowledgeable can identify the material. It might be cheap to cut your own. It's some kind of two-sided silicone rubber coated fiberglass fabric/tape.

I got the bike together this afternoon. Bizarre that it's been three weeks since I rode it last. Reassembly went smoothly and it fired right up. It's significantly quieter now that the pipe is repaired. That made me happy. Electrics seem better but not perfect. I haven't had time to clean the switches and I kept the original flasher in place for kicks. The clutch feels very good- stiffer with the new springs, but nice. Unfortunately, the problem with downshifts is unresolved. Maybe worse, which gives me hope that it just needs adjustment. I barely had time to put gas in the tank and take it around the block before I had to put it away, so I didn't get to fiddle with it. The real bummer is I won't be able to work on it or ride again until next week.

The CL's been parked since my last post- first, I spent a few days at the beach with my girlfriend, then the transmission in my truck bit the big one, and following that, family visited for a week. This morning I had some free time again, so I hurriedly installed a new chain, clutch cable, and flasher relay, then took the bike for a spin. Because I'm "mechanical" but not quite a mechanic, it took a couple pit stops to get the clutch dialed in. No worries- I needed a chance to fiddle with the pilot screw and throttle, too. The good news is the gearbox is finally shifting predictably! The bike is also idling evenly. And thanks to the flasher I scored on eBay, even the turn signals work again. It's amazing how much less complicated riding around town is when you can reliably shift, signal, and avoid stalling without blipping the throttle like a dim-wit on a gixxer, haha. So naturally, I spent three hours riding aimlessly on city streets this afternoon, enjoying the Scrambler's new in-town capabilities.

Courtesy of the magic of image resizing you can't quite see the fork oil leaking all over the right slider, but thanks, max. It's coming together. Besides the suspension, the old tires, tubes, and headlamp are on their last legs. They're holding up OK, though, so I may wait until spring to install their brand-new replacements and spare them a winter in my freezing garage.

Check out this deal I found at Ollie's last week, everybody:

If your bike is as rusty as mine, run, don't walk! I tested it on some nice vintage pliers I picked up at a flea market last week for $1. It probably would've worked better if I'd bothered to clean the pliers, first, but hey. Anybody recognize them? The only marking is "37 DROP FORGED". I think they're out of a 50's or 60's Chevy toolkit. (They're now the official pliers of a '70's Honda toolkit, hehe.)

For kicks I took the CL out in commuter traffic this afternoon. It went great. I wanted to get noodles but since my favorite noodle shop is only a few blocks away, I first rode 45 minutes in the opposite direction.

Near the end of my ride a guy in a blue Durango pulls along side me and shouts that he wants to buy the Scrambler. 30 seconds earlier he'd been tailgating, so I gave him the finger and made a right. The look on his face was priceless, ha ha.

Great that you're putting some miles on it. I'm always careful about pissing people off when I ride, since you can't outrun most cars on these little Hondas. In SF I "agitated" a BMW driver and the guy cut me off and brake-checked me. Wish I had a camera rolling for that.

No kidding. I couldn't even outrun a lot of bicyclists on mine.

A camera would be great. I've been checking out dual setups for my truck, which is similarly poky. I'd like my next lid to have an unobtrusive 360-degree job built into the top.

Here's a photo of that defective insulator. Now that I have the dimensions (and no 3D printer, ha ha) I briefly thought about buying a small sheet of garolite and machining my own and a few spares to hand out here. Maybe if they were unavailable, but until then paying the dealer $6 is a much better deal.

It's a bummer but my gf and I are headed out of town so I won't be on the scrambler again until the end of next week, at the earliest. I'm still hoping to take it on some longer rides this year.

Man that soup looks good.

What is it?

And it's lunch time, here at work.

It's spicy beef and pork bun bo Hue ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bun_bo_Hue ), or more generally, pho ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pho ). Top gear. If you have a Vietnamese restaurant nearby, check it out. They also make great sandwiches and a lot of other stuff.

Not a lot of pho is Augusta, Bud. But, Pho Bac is legit. It's in Evans across from Street and Trail.

That's the way to represent the biker community! And just some classy shit in general. Well done, bravo. ::)
Looks like he's in Lancaster, PA. That's how you say hi in southeast, PA.

Yeah.

Dohc, relax. It's not like I followed the guy home, jumped on his hood in full Mad Max regalia, and proceeded to demolish his windshield with a crowbar. It was a very casual flipping of the bird. Almost cordial. Like, "you were tailgating me in heavy traffic, but hey, you didn't kill me. I'm leaving now." Not the kind of salute I'd reserve for some mouth-breathing troll on the internet.

Speaking of which.

Represent that. Ha ha.

He wanted to buy your bike and you flipped him off. I just don't see the point. But I do see a pattern.
