Sounds like you are taking a shot in the dark. I know the ignition is only about $20 but you keep replacing things that dont need replacing, it will add up. And you'll still be chasing that gremlin.

You have to attack an electrical system...well...systematically. Shorts can be anywhere. You need to test one area...mark it and move on so you know where you've been.

You are right, but the problem is Bryce, I have zero idea about electricals or how to test them. I took it to a mechanic and he told me that the power cutting on and off is due to a messed up ignition switch. I think he is right as the power comes back as I jiggle the key around..

we'll sounds like you are wiling to learn so get yourself a decent multimeter...watch a couple YouTube videos about troubleshooting automotive electrical components and give her a run at it.

this is what I did and now I've got a solid understanding of the electric layout and components.

and installing the electronic ignition is fairly simple... the pamco website has install instruction I thought. I found my cb750 instructions there.

Hondas electrical systems are pretty similar across bikes... the wiring shouldn't be much different from any other.

Thanks for the encouragement, Pamco has instructions on their website as you said but as soon as I see wires I get a headache.

I had some progress this week, I finally took off the gas tank and and installed new ignition switch and I am glad to report that my power cutoff problems are solved. But I just realized how ugly and complicated the wiring system on these old Honda's are, now I have a bunch of excess wire which previously was hidden within the headlight bucket. Ever since I changed the headlight unit out they are just sitting there mocking me ;P
