Hi, new guy here from the U.S.A. of Planet Earth of the Earth-Moon System of the Milky Way Galaxy ,Local Group ,Virgo Supercluster. I've also lived abroad in Korea and Japan quite a bit, also on this same earth planet.
I'm a long time motorcycle lover. I got my first bike when I was 12. It was a piece of shit Yamaha RT 180 and the only maintenance I knew how to do was change the spark plug. So whenever it wouldn't start I'd change the spark plug and push it down a hill then shift into first once I reached speed. This was a horrendous way to start biking, but it was in the days before the internet and I had no access to biking information.
Today I'm 24 years old and have a 2002 CBR 600 F4i that I do all my own maintenance and customization on. It's a beautiful bike that's a joy to ride but I'm looking for a project. Until recently I wasn't interested in cafe racers. The main reason was because of the size, they all looked tiny and cramped and more like toys than real motorcycles that I could ride for any length of time. Recently however I discovered Stanley Tang's XV 750 and Greg Hageman's various Yamaha Viragos. I immediately fell in love with these beauties and became inspired to build my own.
I'm open to ideas and I know people hate the Yamaha Viragos for for cafe conversions but they have the look and size that I want. It will be cliche as hell, and YES I will probably use a Mojave tank. That's the look I want and there are zero cafe racers in my town so, I don't really care if it's cliche. I'll be on here researching and asking questions as I plan my build. I already have a spreadsheet I've started to help with budgeting and remembering all the parts I will need.
I'd be more than grateful for any advice, but I'm gonna read all the threads I can find before I start spamming up the boards with my nagging emotional bullshit, but don't worry it will come. I am fully aware that I will be on the floor sobbing like Shia Labeouf before this build is done. Thanks!
