New here - gs450l budget build

I'm a fan of the colors. Do you plan on cleaning up the tank and using it when you do a repaint?

Well the tank showed was just an image i found on google images. I like the single angled swoop stripe, i sanded and primed my stock tank on the bike already, now the next step in to apply the colors I want with the swoop style stripe :)

I would like to try and paint it myself since i am quite an artist myself. Having the access to a paint sprayer at work will deffinately help. The only thing im worried about is the type of paint to use, so it does not get destroyed from gas spillage. Is there a clear coat sealent spray that maybe i can apply after the paint job is layed down?

Sorry for the slow posts everyone. Nearing the completion of my bachelors degree, so focused on school for a couple weeks :-[

But should pick up soon!!

Find a 2K clear coat. Spraymax is the brand I used on mine. It is Fuel resistant and goes on great when sprayed. You can order it online or find it at most auto paint stores if you have one in your area. Make sure you wear a mask though, it is nasty stuff.

So you've cut your headers right before the cross-over pipe?

I'm attempting to keep my cross-over, which is that odd tiny pipe size. I went to an exhaust shop today and had them 'crimp' down some 1-3/4" OD pipe to 1-1/5" ID, still a bit loose on the OD of the tiny header pipe but close enough that a good weld will hold it no problem. This will also allow me to slightly angle the mufflers up enough to allow the side stand and center stand to fully retract.

Just got em all welded up yesterday Jeff, hope this helps!

now just have to grind em smooth and tape em up :D

Thanks! Looks good!

I'm hoping that I can retain the slip-on clamps for mine. I'd like to be able to remove them if necessary. But I like what you've got going on here!

Bike has came a long way over the winter.

But the "sad" look I am giving the bike has its reason.

Discovered a mean knock in the engine. Made a video for you guys for any suggestions. But do I even want to know?

Thanks again guys

That's not a knock, it's a tick. You need to pull off the cam cover and inspect the valve train. Get a mechanic's stethoscope. they are only about $10. It can help to identify where the sound is coming from.

So it looks like I am just going to have to bite the bullet and seek some professional help.

With the title gs450L "budget build" I makes me sigh that this small tick can stop me in my tracks.
I feel I have done all I can do with the tools available and all the awesome help you guys have provided to me.
Hopefully the zuke shop in town can tune her up a little bit and get her running nice :)

Just want to say thankyou to everyone for all the help along the way!
