Newbie from Oz...

Hey all,

Another newbie from Brisbane, Australia. I'm in the not unique situation of selling all of my toys as my wife is pregnant and I am embarking on a project to cafe racer a CT110 postie bike because a) it's cheap; and b) I can hide in my shed and not be disturbed by my wife!

Ironically, I've signed up to this site knowing my bike will never 'do the ton'!

The bike is already in pieces and is off to the paint shop next week: ski boat metallic sky blue frame and tank will look the vintage goods!

Other bits to be painted include getting black rims/ spokes/ hubs and fork lowers and bars. Style wise, I'm looking for 50's California: white walls, mini speedo in the headlight surround, hidden throttle cable and wiring and a 1kg nitros tank as an airbox/ wiring box. My cafe racer seat, complete with rear hump was delivered yesterday so I'm well excited!

It's a bit wanky but it's great fun and astounding how many people get the shits when you say you're modifying a postie bike!

Anyway, I'll be on here a bit for hints and tips and general chit chat.

Take it easy.

Matt

Hey,

Thats awesome man! Ya, Ton'in up may not happen for you unless your driving it out of a cargo plane... but its a start! what a fun little project! I am trying to pass along advice to newbies as I am also kinda new to this and am looking for good basic advice myself. I would say getting involved in the custom motorbike community is the first start. Reading, posting and seeing what other people are doing. Not only will it give you ideas for your own build, some of the things people are doing are universal and considered "tricks of the trade".

My advice, take a photo with a digital camera through every single step of your build.
When your stressed, take it out on your project in a positive way by being super attentive to detail. Buy a dremel tool and buy lots of attachments from Ebay.

Best of luck !

Hey mate,

Love the idea of taking out frustration with a dremel tool! I'm an aircraft maintenance engineer by trade so most of the time work in a pretty slow and methodical way, with the exception of removing wiring. I hate that bastard stuff! I've spent an hour on here so far and have already got a few good ideas, so that's a great start!

I'll put pics in the projects section- only taken 2 so far (day it arrived and halfway through stripping) but now the disassembly is done the process should slow considerably.

Take it easy.

Hey Matt and welcome! Interesting project on the CT but there seems to be a bit of interest in doing funky stuff with them lately.

Seen Post Modern motorcycles at all?

Where in Brissie do you hang your hat? I'm in Keperra myself...

You may be able to do the ton after all!

Hi Matty. Great to see another brisbanite! Your the fourth or fifth guy I've heard of customizing a ct110 locally so at least you can start your own club lol.

I recently finished a ct in the cafe racer shop I work in and there should be a pic on my Facebook page. There was also a great fork swap I saw possibly her or the Australian cafe racer forum that would mean you'd maybe be able to handle post ton speeds:)
