not a cafe, but it is old! fighter style gs750ef

Really like the early GSX motors (4 valve /cyl) ;D
Late model Katana (98 on) or 600/1200 Bandit rear wheel should slot right in and match front.
Its a 17 x 4.5" rim. - would need smaller sprocket to keep 'stock' gearing.
Early model is 17 x 3.5" but has 'angled' spokes (600/750 Katana, GS 500 twin)

Any progress? This is one of my favorite builds! ;)

progress is slow now.
the last time i touched the bike i got a 1/4 inch metal sliver in my eye that had to be drilled out. Not fun.....
still not sure how it happened considering i was wearing goggles, and a faceshield

im just working on cleaning up the motor now.
Headlight brackets will be done tomorrow and then i can start on mounting the front fender and glassing the rear

Yikes! That made me want to put my goggles on right now, and I'm just having coffee.

Hope your feeling better.

How do you drill metal out of your eye? That shit sounds nuts!

Didn't seem to work so well for Dip.

"my friend had a condom break on him and ended up getting the girl pregnant. So Im never wearing a condom again!"

great logic.. Im sure it will take you far in life ::)

excellent! looking at the first cut photo I was shocked- who'd ruin such a nice GS bike? And then change the appearance entirely? Blasphemy!!

You've got skills, looks much better than a stock ES. I never liked the half faired TSSC models, they seem too plastic and heavy for an 80s musclebike.

If you're still having clutch issues, I remember there's a thread on the xs11heaven site that shows how to adapt a hydraulically operated clutch.

You're missing the point, junior... I said that because PJ recommended I wear safety glasses as to not get metal in my eyes, whereas DIP got metal in his eye even while wearing safety goggles and a shield.
For the record, I always wear protection. Eye's and otherwise.

Sorry to hear about the eye! I have been wondering what happened to this thread, so I went digging for it! I hope you well on your way to a full recovery and get back to wrenching soon! I really love this build and need to see the next episode!

So when will the new season begin? Any time soon?

Good luck and best whishes on your recovery!

After a long time i finally have updates.

time to rush, i need this thing done for summer.

pulled the motor apart and have new bearings and seals on the way.

headlight brackets are almost done, I will post up the whole excessively over elaborate build as soon as they are complete.

the motor is surprisingly clean considering it has 93 thousand km on it.

Ill be updating this daily now that Ive realized riding season is just over a month away....

Just read the whole build so far - great work man! Sweet paint, killer tail, and it sounds like the motor should be an easy one!

How's the eye? Any after-effects? One of the guys I work with got some metal grinding dust in his eye and just ignored it. Until it actually started to rust in his eyeball.

rad build man, i remember whe you first posted this, i loved what you were doing, and im certain its going to be a kick but bike, actualy... it already is! lol love what youve done with it so far.

i had a piece of metal in my eye too, pretty big, luckily with some help, it was able to be pulled out.
Hope theres no permanent damge for ya man.

Thanks!!

My eye is perfect now, no long term damage thankfully

so the old motor was a write off. not even worth rebuilding. After a lot of searching i found a good one (hopefully)
So for the first time in a year theres a motor in the bike again, FINALLY!
now its just onto wiring and finishing the headlight mounts.
