ya, I might take you up on those. I kinda have a plan for the duc pegs, I think I can get it to work with fairly basic fabrication... just some cutting and drilling, no welding.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

things have been going slow, but Ive been ordering engine parts, and Ive got them all in now including imoale's custom made teflon cam chain roller. I was bored so I installed the rings on the pistons, still need to hone the cyl's but it seemed strange to me that I couldnt really slide the pistons in, and the rings stick out more. Also I had an appointment setup at Ace Motorcycle in chicago to media blast pretty much everything on the engine except for the case. The case Im going to paint myself, however that looks to be the biggest hold up in getting the thing assembled. Its been below freezing save for one day for the past 3 weeks and will likely stay below freezing for the next two. In the mean time I think Ill continue tearing down the bike and then prep the wheels for paint (decided powder is out of the budget on this build..)

anyways here's a pic of the goodies:

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Thats all looking good bro. The sandblasting should help with your paint issue. Living in Arizona heat is the easiest thing to come by for me. Remember you can always go onto other smaller projects while you wait for things that get farmed out of the garage.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

ya, next time its closer to 30° Im going to go out to the garage and see what I can find to tinker with.

As for the sandblasting, Im actually going to leave all the parts just blasted except the case which isnt getting blasted but paint instead. I like the matte look of blasted metal. Who knows though, I may change my mind, Ive done it several times already :)

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Yeah I like the mat finish also, All I painted was my side covers.

man you can not do that, yoiu are going to have to clear them or protect that metal in some way, blasting will open up the metals poors... if you do not then put a protective layer it will carode like you have never seen... in the right humidity OVER NIGHT even... can be bad news.... you can still keep the mat rough looked just use a satin clear after blasting

can I rattle can it? Is there a such thing as high temp satin clear rattle can?

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

problem with high temp clear, is that it spiderwebs, as well as will have a gloss finish... personally I think the gloss finish over the raw metal would look cool... but i am not sure how well it would hold up. nice part about it is it is cheap...so if it does not hold up well just add another coat!

so it looks like my options are to rattle can gloss clear with high temp paint, rattle can satin clear which probably wont hold up, and I could also wax it right? If I wax it though, then I have to maintain the wax eh? Is there a such thing as satin powder? But I guess the powder would have problems with out gassing with the raw blasted surface eh?

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

no man you powder on raw metal... what matters is the media you use in blasting... yes you can get satin clear powder.... wax the bare metal? it will yellow and then really look funky.... (we are talking about your motor here right?) VHT makes a good clear satin rattle can...

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

perfect! Ill see if I can find it locally, and if not Ill put it on order. Thanks Joe!

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

I had a close look at your cam,it's a high lift, longer duration(early style) and the cam sprocket and rockers are specific to that cam..$$$$$$$$ very hard to find! sell? and salvage a late cam from another motor,,,,,,,,whats it worth ...$100 cam, cha ching with the rockers and sprocket, down side high wear(supposedly) on cam and rockers, big difference in top end!!!!!!!!!

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

OOPS wear limit on the bore is .008,stock bore is 64mm. increments of .25mm(.010",first over)are available,,,check with honda for availability

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

looks good man, I'm about where you are on my rebuild.

I've found a ton of rubber and metal bit's in my engine, I only have one motor, I wish I had three. I was wondering where you got your cam tensioner from, I've looked but can't find any.

Also are you going to go into the bottom of the case to look for the rest of the metal?

keep it up.

thanks!

I got pretty much everything from servicehonda.com Awesome site! cmsnl.com is a similar site, but based out of europe I beleive, so shipping can be expensive.

Im using the bottom end from the hardtail, and most of the top end too. I didnt find any metal or rubber in this motor.

ya, the previous owner had told me about the 69 cam in the hard tail, dont know why I didnt mention it on here. Good eye though! I was planning on using it, but then again this isnt a race bike, so maybe selling it and putting the $ into my budget would be a better idea?

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

I believe I got two 69 cams myself one in Triple six and another on the shelf which Im hoping to put into the Brat Style ride.
Boom got the sweet ass good looking hell of a cam chain tensioner from yours truly.....LOL... sorry just being proud. Can't wait to see more pics Boom keep it going. Man I still love that hardtail frame of yours.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Something to remember lad's, early cam won't work with late rockers,,,base circle of the cam is different, as is the cam sprocket,,you need all the goodies,,,too make it fast!!!!!!!

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Wee Todd i love how much shit you know! i wish i knew motors like you do!!!
