nothing special, just another bastardized cb750...

Im liking this one. I like how you are trying to keep it period correct. Rock on brotha! Cant wait to see it finished. Those shocks will look awesome btw.

Got these in the mail yesterday. Got to love networking! I've had ppl in 2 states keeping an eye out for a set of 900f shocks. Score! $100 bucks.

Nice score, but I gotcha beat. Found mine on fleabay for $65 with no bids on them. You don't see very many of these shocks around!

When the 900F came out with those piggyback shocks they became known as Fade Very Quickly for reasons that are pretty much self explanatory. Used moderately, they are OK but they do fade if ridden hard over say a bumpy road.

If you want them for the LOOK, that's fine, but they really need to be rebuilt to get them to work well.

Yup, I've been told that a few times, but I think even after fade they are at least as good as stock shocks, and I was planning on a rebuild too since im probably gonna powdercoat the bodies eventually :)

Send them here. It's DTT member beatniks' shop. He does amazing work with old beat up suspension bits.

Nice! I've seen them go for as much as $300 on there before.

Cool man! Ill keep that in mind. But for now I gotta focus on the other major (can't roll without it) parts. Chain, oil bag, wire harness, etc.

Thanks for the link!

Man, I wish I had a free weekend. I would come up there and help you make your own harness.

Man that would be awesome. I've actually got a harness for it but I want to strip it down to just the absolute basics. But that's still a ways out. Got to get everything else sorted and then wiring will be nearly last.

Next up, here's a dilemma. I have this mutilated top clamp laying around (its from a 77 so its ugly anyways) so for now its just holding the front end together. Now I could make a new one at work (like I did for dad's gl1000) but id be interested in what you guys think.

Should I fill and blend it? Im not a fan of body filler on steering components, so I could make one that would cone out like this one

Or if there's another top out there that can be made to work id love to hear about it!

And there's also this.

The plan so far is to cut it on the black lines to hide the missing chunk. Then it will get the standard drill and polish treatment we all know so well. But if I finish it and it doesn't flow, well, ill have a cover up for trade :)

Update time!

Scored a gpz550 mag on ebay to go with the front that I pulled of the en450.

So here's a mock up of both on the bike. Front is a direct bolt on except for needing a spacer or two. Rear will need a bearing conversion and spacers to fit properly. Anyone know off hand which bearings to convert to a honda axle dia? Ill check mcmaster - carr soon to see...

The bike is looking good, I really love the GPZ mags. That top triple looks a little weak to me though, I would be kinda wary of riding around with that.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support. I have moubtain of work to do to have it ready for the thaw, but im gonna try. May have to wait for the meltdown instead. And toast, yeah im not using the old hacked up clamp. I cut it up just to see if it was workable. Ill be machining a new one at work as soon as things slow down a little.

I've still got to source and adapt brakes to front and rear, sort out the oil tank, electric bits, and hopefully new tires and chain, reline the gas tank, and find sone of those pesky carb boots for a 77-78. Cb750... yay!
