Oh Lord (CB500) - The Leaky Bitch (p. 31)

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Tank Progress!!! (top of pg.32)

Get that thing up and running. Take a couple 'round the block shake down rides. Then make a ride up here to Rome to show it off to me. Then let's go to Barber. It's only 2.5 hours from my place to Barber, no interstates and it's all pretty rural and flat. If you get up and running by early September you'll have a month to practice ride before Barber.

Even if you go in a car don't miss out on Barber. It's worth it.

Minor tank update from Dave at Legendary Motorcycles. He just sent me this picture of the top of the tank in fiberglass. He says that he needs to get a laser scan of this to get the tunnel piece just right. Its great seeing the different steps that go into making this thing.

Yeah, I think I am going to drive up to Barber for the thing in my car...

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Minor tank update (pg.33)

I've been getting updates from Dave at Legendary Motorcycles on the tank progress. Its been cool seeing the process as the tank gets assembled.

In this pic, the tank tunnel mold has been carved by a CNC machine and is being prepped for fiberglass.

Pretty cool stuff to see. Legendary Motorcycles seems like some stand up guys.

Now we're getting somewhere! Looking pretty awesome!

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Minor tank update (pg.33)

Damn that looks so good. Do you know what those molds are originally made from?

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Minor tank update (pg.33)

I think he started roughly with a laser scan of a tank I sent him, tweaked it a little, and then CNC'ed a foam buck to lay the fiberglass over. I believe he then vacuum cures the fiberglass so that it has that nicer near finished surface.

I totally stumbled on Legendary Motorcycles by accident, after reading some posts Dave wqas involved in on a Triumph forum. I didn't put two-and-two together until I checked out the website (http://www.legendary-motorcycles.com/), and I then realized that I had seen his stuff advertised in Cafe Racer Magazine.

All in all, I am pretty happy with what I have been seeing. Dave has been top notch sending me updates on the tank progress. I think normally, you just submit an order for what you want and you get your stuff shipped to you. This is a little bit of custom work, to make the tank fit how my fram has been laid out for the Benji's tank I originally mounted. Now that was an expensive mistake!

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Minor tank update (pg.33)

what are you going to do with that old tank? i would be intrested in it to have my buddy paint it for some wall art

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Minor tank update (pg.33)

Well damn if you didn't screw yourself out of the tank with that idea! The thing that sucks, is that I have that VERY expensive tank, a VERY expensive Joker Machine fuel filler cap, and a semi-expensive brand new Honda petcock. Now I am thinking I might get the tank done up exactly like how-ever the bike gets painted up and then hang it on the wall in the man cave with the Joker Machine fuel filler cap on it. As for the petcock; it'll probably end up getting chucked onto FleaBay with a bunch of other parts I will move out of the garage.

Sorry but thanks for the great idea!!!

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Minor tank update (pg.33)

hahaha well if your intrested my buddies own an art gallery and do some pretty wicked work on tanks and stuff for me pretty often

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Minor tank update (pg.33)

I think I'm going to get my favorite musician, Hot Rod Walt of the Psycho DeVilles, to stripe it up. It's gonna look good on the wall of my fun room!

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Got the tank on (pg. 34)

I will do a more detailed review later, but yesterday, I got the tank via UPS. This thing is so much nicer than the Benji's tank in terms of construction quality and tolerances. My bars don't hit the right side of the tank anymore. The tank fits closer to the neck and back bone. It is soooooo much lighter too!

Just some quick pictures:

Wow! Looks great man! Fired it up yet?

No :( It wont start. I'm afraid the carbs are buggered. I'm thinking some of the screwed up tank liner got into them.

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Got the tank on (pg. 34)

Are you getting fuel to the carbs? Not a problem with the petcock or anything?

Re: Oh Lord (CB500) - Got the tank on (pg. 34)

new petcock came with the tank. i'm afraid the carbs are going to have to come off, again.
