Hello DTTers, Im looking fro some advice on how to paint my crankcases and what paint to use.

I used duplicator engine paint with a self etching primer on my last engine. It came out good but was not gas resistant so when my carbs leaked the paint flaked.
This time around I'm going with POR 15 engine paint

Some 2K clear coat will save you damage from gas leakage.

The por15 is about the same price once you favor in the amount of cans it takes to cover the engine anyway. I say go POR-15

Here are a couple of reasons why I wouldn't use a 'normal' clear coat on crankcases
1. Cases will be over 200f when engine is up to running temp, not sure how well 'paint' copes with heat/cool cycles?
2. Paint can act as an insulator, particularly with multiple coats on air cooled engine

How about powder coat? How much insulation does a caot of paint actually create? Anybody have heat problems after painting?
