Seeing your FB post about Victoria and those slanted shocks makes me wanna put my hands on all bolts again, then again. So glad that didn't end bad.

Re: "Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

Here's where I ended up. I had to cut some of the stainless joiners, had to add a little 15 degree elbow right at the carb throat to kick it away from the frame, and add a crap ton of clamps. I think I'm happy with it now! I'll do the other side and see how it runs.

My only suggestion here is with the length of the tube etc, you may want a bracket to take the weight of the filter and hang it off the frame under the seat. A P clamp with rubber and a short piece of alloy stock and a couple of bolts. Just so the vibration and bumps don't cause it all to fall apart. Could even use the last hose clamp bolt to attach the hanger then to the frame.

Edit. redline in pic below would be where I would put something to support. could even just be some stainless safety wire.

Maritime, if his fits anything like mine he'll more than likely be just fine. Mine fit so snug I didn't even clamp it. That silicone grabs onto the aluminum like crazy glue!

Now watch me go check mine and find it falling apart ;D

Hey Maritime, thanks! I like the safety wire idea a lot. I may even have a threaded hole right there on the frame. Cant remember. I bought some safety wire pliers a while back and I've been safety wiring all kinds of stuff, haha, not even on my motorcycle. It's kinda addicting.

About the intake - when I used that 30 degree elbow, I realized I think I can eliminate a whole section of tubing (and weighty stainless joiner) out of the intake and shorten it up a few inches - not sure what that will do to performance but it would help with that mass hanging out there at that long moment arm as you mentioned.

It may be fine but the length adds weight and deflection ability, basically the length is going to make it want to move a lot more than you would think and better to be safe than find it come off on a ride or stress the carbs and cause cracks from fatigue. Just like exhaust, hangers are important to prevent vibration causing leaks and damage over time. May never be needed, but cheap insurance. Great job on getting all together for sure.

It is pretty rigid indeed, considering the entire thing has stainless inside haha. Makes it heavy too tho.

Yeah mine is only 1 piece of stainless not 2. Forgot that it's stainless not aluminum haha. Hmm I didn't even think of your filter being heavier as well. Either way, that should perform like a champ! I'd assume it's better than what I did. FYI I'm sending out your care package today

Hey quick question. What sprockets are you running? Mine came with a 16/38, thinking of changing the front to 17.

I'm actually running stock CB200 gearing which was on the bike when I got it. I'm traveling for work so I can't check until tomorrow, but I recall 14/33. It was discussed at length in this thread a while back because I was having some chain rub issues and on the swingarm.

I will try to search back through the thread and see if I can find it. Your biggest challenge running a bigger front sprocket will be clearing the clutch pushrod. There's not much space there.

Gotcha. I know that 17 fits but I think that's about it. I'm looking to bring down my rpms at 65 a little, as long as that's possible

Nice. I've been using this one as well

Any success with the pod setup? Just checked on mine and the bottom of the pods were soaked in what I think is gas. Kinda confused, but wondering if they contributed to my idle issue.

Not quite yet. I've been out of town for work all week, unfortunately. I am also waiting on another elbow to come in so I can finish up the right side intake.

Did you oil them yourself? Mine didn't come with any oil. I had some uni filters on there one time and I stuck them in a plastic bag with motor oil and squished it around. I dropped oil from those things for about a month. No matter how much I thought I wrung it out, oil still came out. It didn't impact performance too much IIRC.

Updated my post, I think it's gas not the filter oil. I've oiled a ton of filters, and have a nice process to get just enough on them. I took mine off and I'm letting the gas evaporate off. I think the idle was better without the filters on as well but I have to ride it with open carbs to check. Why would they be soaked with gas? In theory that could have caused my issues I think.

Petcock leak? Both are soaked or just one?

Petcock has been rebuilt works great. Both evenly soaked. I'm wondering if I ran my fuel lines shitty.

That wouldn't explain why fuel was on your filters though? Unless you've been riding around a ton and the wind blew a stream, in which case your pants would be smelling like gas too...
