"Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

Re: "Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

Alright guys here we are! You guys made this job very simple and thank you!!

Forks are indeed up top. There is nothing in the bottom case but the shift shaft and the baffle tray things.

Check it out. That gear tooth that I found? Turns out it came from the kickstart shaft. Here is my theory: since I didn't have a kickstart lever to keep the shaft from rotating internally from vibration, I'm thinking that the gear slid down the perpendicular helical gear and started to mate with the transmission gear at the end of the set due to vibration. Makes perfect sense to me if that's the case.

Old versus new.

So this is how the diagram shows the rotor. I can see how that clutch plate #1 would come off if I could unscrew those 3 screws but I can't manage to do that. It looks like the screws were intentionally keyed by deforming them onto the plate making it difficult to turn them. I've tried a hand impact driver with no luck. How hard can I hit this thing without damaging the rotor?

Also is there any way to test a rotor before putting everything back together? I wanna make sure this booger charges this time.

if those screws are gonna be a pain, just leave them in and remove the loose bits, rollers, springs etc ,ie: #2 #3 #13 in the dyegram
many time those screws have already worked loose

Ok, I was hoping to lose the mass but I would rather not strip the thing in the process. Why did they punch the screw head like that? All of them are that way.

That was a stupid question. I know why they did that. The better question would be how do they intend you remove them of they intentionally made it difficult

Shame on you showing pictures of that pretty girl out of her knickers.

So that red line is the hondabond?

It's loctite 518...XB33bsa told me about the stuff and I've been using it ever since. I wiped off the excess but I imagine there is a similar "squish" line on the inside of the cases too.

Quick question...when I took the engine apart, the guy left out the gasket under the oil pump. I looked in my gasket kit and found a gasket for this area, but it is literally a piece of cardboard. It's not gasket material, literally pressed corrugate. Is this gasket necessary, and do I actually use this crappy gasket?

Are you upgrading to the 200 oil pump?

I wasn't because I had forgotten :) and I have one sitting in the garage too!! Might as well do that. Do you guys know any flow numbers that are associated to the switch?

Is this amount of slop in the clutch basket normal? Feels like it's just bouncing off of the circlip holding it on or something.
