Thanks mate.

I would love the details of the brake upgrade. I need to replace most of the front system because the hoses are beginning to perish.

I don't mind the old drum brake. I have read about an xj wheel swap to a larger rim.

this is where I got the adapter plates to put the 6 pots onto the fork legs, you have the same crap calipers as the early maxes so he should be able to help you out, can't find the specific bit on his site but try emailing him , he was very helpful when I got in contact

the discs I got off ebay, have a look here, loads of choices, I paid somewhere over $200 for a pair, measure the bolt spacing to make sure they fit but i'm guessing they'll be the same, mine were and you've got the same discs as mine had.

brake lines also ebay, if you choose the aussie sites on this link they should come with ADR/DOT marking for extra legality, they're cheap and quick delivery, also converted mine from 1-2 into 2 completely separate lines.

I also converted to a hayabusa m/cyl which I got from....you guessed it, ebay. don't be tempted by the cheap arse chinese crap, buy a genuine one and refurb the seals

the pads are, from memory, SBS HS compound

if you can get the XJ front wheel done you'll at least end up with a wider tyre though I think they're still 19", same as the virago, (might be 18" but most stuff had 19 back then) it may be that old Xj600s have a drum back end that can be made to fit, that way you should end up with matching wheels that you can at least get (sort of) stickyish tyres for. axles and or spacers will be needed for both wheels but you seem to be a handy sort of chap so shouldn't be a problem.....

cheers, spotty

Headed up to North Dakota today to pick up a stablemate for the '84 F250 Diesel...it's a gasser so I guess it will be a mixed marriage. Going to set it up for a few different options in the upcoming months.

Epic, gut it and put in a bar with beer on tap.

Is that a wheelchair lift on the side?

This isn't what I bought, but it is the results of what I bought.

I ended up finally getting an orbital polisher. Car paint was getting oxidized and I figured I might be able to use it on bikes, too.
