Project Celeste, CB400four....realizing my dream bike.

Re: Project Celeste, the "simple" one.

Got some work done on the old girl today. Almost done with the tins. Figured it was due time you guys saw what I was up to! There will be gold pin stripes between the colors, in the spirit of HRC and Pops Yoshimura. Also, in other news, there are two motors and a titled frame en route from Michigan as we speak. The plans are to build one of the motors to blueprinted specs using 498cc pistons, balanced crank, balanced pistons, new primary chain and upgraded cam chain (Yoshi), Web stage 2 cam, upgraded valve springs, fully decked and ported heads, and my new toys.....

26mm CR carbs.

Also, these badges will be going on. Exact Honda authorized RC166 reproduction decals. Imported from Japan, and took FOREVER to arrive, but the quality is amazing.

Here are the new wheels, soon to be soda blasted and centers of the wheels powdered white. The shouldered lips will be polished. I will also be brass plating the spokes. These are Akront high shouldered alloys.

Hub disassembled, also ready for blasting, new bearings, and powder/polish:

I also picked this up....it's a vintage 70's magnesium basket, stainless disk, factory drilled brake rotor for the front. It weighs a crazy 16 oz. less than the stock steel unit. It really is quite the difference. I am hoping to shave 3 lbs of rotating mass from the front and rear wheels.

I replaced all of the side covers with spare units that I polished out. The stator and the points (now housing a Dyna S) covers were replaced with vintage finned covers that I got lucky on from Ebay. They were powdered gold and painstakingly removed of the powder on the edges. The gold theme will carry through the bike in accents to nod to its race heritage.

Re: Project Celeste, the "simple" one.

Fuck man, I don't think "Simple" is a word I would use in this bike's description, Ha!.

Looks fantastic man.

Are you going to hand pinstripe the transitions from red to white? What color are you going to use for the pinstripe?

Re: Project Celeste, the "simple" one.

Whoa......just now seeing this. You have been busy, haven't you?

I gotta step back and take all this in......

Re: Project Celeste, the "simple" one.

Purdy! That is very classy, can't wait to see it finished.

Re: Project Celeste, the "simple" one.

Thanks for the props guys! The transition pinstripes are going to be gold. Hoping to do something cool in that department. It should really wake everything up when it's all said and done. I'm pretty happy about how everything is coming together. As you guys know, this is my dream Honda, so I want her done right. Thanks again for checking it out. Glad you guys are diggin it!

Re: Project Celeste, the "simple" one.

loving the paint... you thought about doing a duel stripe on the pin striping? would give that a bit more depth

That's exactly what I'm thinking about doing Joe...Great minds! I have been thinking of trying a gold and a blue, I know gold will be in there. blue may also go in to give some contrast and really give a nod to the racing roots. We shall see. It's freakin raining here today (of course) so the humidity is too high for me to get anything done paint wise. Back to my cleaning the shop fiasco. I think I am going overboard with overhauling my dirty shop....but it's kinda fun!!!

Re: Project Celeste, the "simple" one.

Stage 3 of the paint is done. Layed down the blue accent and added the gold pin striping. Also installed the logos. I am so thrilled with the way this thing looks. It surpassed my expectations by far!! It has a cool 70's race vibe and still has the HRC race colors....kind of RC166, Kind of RC30. With the white inset on the wheels, I think that it will send this thing over the top....especially with the gold spokes!!!!!!!!!

All that's left is the clear coat. I think I'm gonna borrow my buddy's paint booth at his shop after hours to do it, because the weather won't cooperate here. My home made booth is just too damp even with the heaters on and all sealed up. I can't stand to risk getting a milky clear coat! Everything looks a little pink since I sanded everything down to 600 for some tooth and to get rid of the color transition, but it is very VERY red! Whatcha think fellas?

Great job on the paint. Those multi-coloured jobs are always time consuming but well worth it when they come out like that.

Thanks man, and yeah, I've had this vision in my head for several years. I am out to build my dream bike, and I have always loved the RC30s. This was the scheme I always wanted, so it's just one step towards realizing THE bike ya know. They are time consuming (been working on this tank for months) considering this thing smelled like lacquer, had dents and 5 layers of paint on it already, and had to be stripped, bondoed, Por15-ed, and finally painted. Not to mention it took me FOREVER to collect the new side covers...but it's a labor of love and I am enjoying every second of it. Thanks again for the props.

Re: Project Celeste, CB400four....reaiizing my dream bike.

Very nice detail work, man. It's obvious a lot of time and patience went into it. Can't wait to see it all cleared!

Re: Project Celeste, CB400four....reaiizing my dream bike.

Thanks Ringo, I wanted it to be right, this is the bike I lose sleep over! Hahaha!
