Thing's so mean you gotta keep it in a cage? ;D

Very cool concept and so far execution man! Are you working on plans for a wider rear tire? That skinny little bias is asking to be changed. I have seen some chain conversions done to these to allow for a modern rear tire that would help the look a lot! Check out this link for some ideas:

This is for the XS/ XJ1100, but the same concepts would apply. Nice job, I will be following to see where it ends up ;D

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

t71ford: that will be something i will consider in the future. i have been thinking about a chain conversion for a while. i will just have to wait until i have the extra money for that.

well, not much done to the bike today (actually nuthin done) because i had to run some errands. one of those errands being having to run some of our old stuff down to the local goodwill. since i was there figured i would look around and holy crap look what i found

and it was only 18 bucks! its no biltwell that i wanted to get but it looks close enough for me! well, instead of painting it i decided i would go another route and get a lil creative with a sharpie and then cover it with layers of satin clear. i love it and it looks awesome.

i will take better pics when the clear dries.

Re: Project Cheap Racer (Oh boy here we go again)

yeah the more i look at it the more im loving the raw look. might try to do like a brushed finish on the tank and side plates. what do you guys think? im stuck trying to figure out what color to go with. should it be brushed finished, dark brown, or the light brown i had it before? im going to let you guys (and gals) decided

Re: Project Cheap Racer...help me pick a color scheme

well thx guys for all the help lol. i guess im going with the brushed finish. hope i can pull it off. any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated. also just found out the i will be moving into a new condo with a two car garage! so now i have a place to work on my bike inside!

Re: Project Cheap Racer...help me pick a color scheme

Hey bud, I think a light metallic caramel brown with metallic brown accents could look killer. Just my two cents.

Re: Project Cheap Racer...help me pick a color scheme

thx for the input but i already started the "brushing" process. i will see what it looks like when im done. shouldnt be hard to paint over if i dont like it

Re: Project Cheap Racer...help me pick a color scheme

dude... you've got a sweet project going on too.. con grads... I'm looking forward to see what you do.. I like the helmet, the man can paint!.. are you brushing your rims too? I’m sorry I didn’t read all of the pages, just looked at the porn. .lol.. I’m planning on using Duracoat on my rims and hubs.. We use a lot in the firearm industry it very strong, durable and chemical resistant. It’s actually a epoxy not a paint so it should, well one would think it would hold up.. What type of brush do you have / use? I really like my Iwata eclipse, I can run HOK through it at 18 psi for detail work or autoair at 40 psi for some coverage stuff.. anyway sorry for the blaa, bllaa, blaa..

Looking forward to further updates for sure..

keep up the good work sir..

im not airbrushing it im going with a brushed finish on the raw metal tank and side plates like this:

i might do the same to the outer rims on the wheels. hopefully i can hit it up tomorrow. but things might be on hold since i will be moving soon. cool thing is im moving just down the street

wish it looked like that already. that pic is just an example i found of what im going for on my tank and side plates. things are on hold until i move in at the end of the month into my new condo. i cant wait to finally be in a garage
