Project Grom Reaper: 80cc Cafe

Re: Project Grom Killer: 80cc Cafe

nope. it will be cut off after the rear cross support. just haven't trimmed it yet. waiting until seat is mounted to do that.

quick pic.

more or less like the last. got the rear tank mount made. nice and solid. changed out the rear shock spring to a stiffer one. was planning on powdercoating it red, but i actually like the black. (what are your opinions on color??) also started modifying the seat pan to fit low to the subframe. now just need to make seat mounts.

Re: Project Grom Killer: 80cc Cafe

not much of an update. it's been back down to normal high of 40 degrees march temps. did install the chain and rear brake line. got a little more work done on the seat pan. hope to have it mounted this week.

weather has been all over the place, but managed to get a few more things done.

ground off the steering stem welds and pressed it out. then i machined the bottom off the top triple to drop it down.

while i had the triple apart, i also machined some material out of the bottom of the lower clamp to lighten it.

no pics of this, but i had to turn the steering stem down to 25mm at the bottom to accept a stand size bearing. then welded it back onto the lower triple clamp.

i trimmed the rear subframe and mounted the forks and triple back on. looks better imo. i also machined an aluminum spacer for the rear shock to give me more adjustment.

lastly, i cut the stock seat foam to the height i wanted. have gone through maybe 4 different ideas for a seat mount and just tonight settled on one. so i'll soon be making that.

Not bad at all, that's thinking out side the box. Two thumbs up!!

been super crappy out, but managed to get a lot done in the past few days.

cleaned the tank with a sulfuric acid / vinegar mix

and finished up the front and rear seat mounts

adjusted the rearsets to a comfortable riding position and fabbed up some shifter linakge

and lastly, modified the pipe and added a team calamari twin silencer

a few things i didn't get pics of like the cdi and coil mounts i made under the tank, and i adjusted the shock reservoir hose angle for better mounting and had it filled with nitrogen. really close to the first ride (when temps support it) just need to mock up a radiator

no. at some point i'm going to make a low pipe for it and then i'll either run a different radiator up front, or one between the rear subframe with ducts to it

Taming the super mini is like taking a live baby barn swallow from a three week old kitten... Fly wheel, pipe, reeds and gears. Think woods bike mang.
