Project Panty Dropper; 69 cb350

Maybe I missed it?
You did butt weld all the spot welded seams you ground off?
The flanges were holding sides of frame together.
The 'normal' thing to do is remove flanges and box rear section with flat plate instead of leaving it as 'C' section

The whole seem was butt weldeded and ground down to clean it up. But I do like the flate plate way b/c it seems stronger to me. Maybe thats what I'll do on top of the but welds.

Ive been using a Sawzall, Jigsaw, and a dewalt hand grinder to cut and clean up my parts. I'm saving up some coin for a good band saw.

Just fired up the wood stove and I'm gonna finish the glassing the aerotech pan I sliced up last night so It should really start looking like a complete bike by the end of the day. I'll snag some more pics. when done.

modern bandsaws just look pretty... i got one thats about 40 years old and it works just fine. heavy and burly as anything, but a great saw. total cost- zero dollars. got it from a public school that closed down its machine shop. sad to see that people dont learn hand skills anymore. lets see where the economy is in 30 years. ::)

I've been keeping my out for old shop equipment you cant kill that stuff! My gramps has old school machine shop equipment thats about 30 yrs. old and you can buy stuff that durable anymore!

I got the tail section ready for the body shop today, and just waiting on some parts. I'm hoping to get the exhaust done this weekend at my buddy's shop. I ordered a stainless supertrapp. Once the exhaust is done I can pull the motor back out and finish up the frame. Then sand blast paint and wrap the headers, and get the tank, head light and tail painted. As well as have the seat pan upholstered. I tested the compression today and its 150/170 so it looks like I'll have to order up a new ring set and have the jugs bored. It's an unexpected expense but necessary. Any ways onto the pics.

Cut and mocked up with the first layer of glass:

I had to stretch and support the rear to get a tight fit over the loop:

After a few more lays of glass and fiddeling around here's how it is:

I have a good feeling about this bike. & its more then just the feeling I get when I think of its title. ;)

Thanks, I didn't have a chance to get much done. But I fiddled around and taught myself how to braze yesterday so I made this up. I cleaned it up and dropped it off to be powder coated today. Hopefully I'll be making my exhaust tomorrow since my muffler came in, I'm gonna have to re-work the exhaust shield to my liking to but I guess it's all part of the process.

that is awesoem! i really dig the rear fender idea! just awesome!!! man do a how to for brazing on here... i keep forgetting to do one... if you try and i try to remember one of us is bound to get it up here!!! i learned with a kit i got at home depot! ha ha ha
bike is looking great!

Exhaust is done. I just gotta clean up and reshape the end of the heat shield so it wraps around the muffler, and braze on a nut for the rear bolt. Next day off I can yank the motor and pull the wiring. I gotta find a good body shop to paint the body work and then I can finish the frame. I finally dug out the digital camera and charged it up so here's some better pics.

everything looks good but that damn seat still looks WAY too long to me. almost looks like it could be a two up seat.

I think it's just fine. It's the way I saw it in my head. I think if I went any shorter with it it would look way too stubby for my liking. I've had a bike with a short seat before and I wanted this too look much more vintage and classy than that one. I guess to each their own.

i like the pipe but i would hack that heat shield right where you made your 2-1 collector... show that off a bit

I actually heated up and made the end of the heat shield taper off and round over the collector. I stripped it back down to the frame and front end. I also picked up a welder yesterday, so I finished up some more work on the frame last night. I'm hoping to have it mostly done today. All I need to finish it will be a battery so I can make/weld a battery box up under the tail. My goal is to have everything ready to drop off to the body shop for paint for next week when my taxes come in. I'll snag a couple pics of the days work and post em up later.
