Update pics. 99% ready for paint and powder! I'm happy with the frame. So I turned my attention to the headlight tabs. They were kinda beat up so I straightened them out as best I could and shaved the holes for the side markers since they look goofy, and tossed them in the powder coating pile along with some other stuff. I also shaved off the steering lock too.
you are going to want to knock those sanding grooved down a bit more with some 300 gritt or that will all show through the powder bud... unless your coater is going to primer first (which is a waste of time) we coat all day loing so i figured i would give you a heads up bud
Thanks for the tip! I finished the frame today it's all smoothed out and painted along with the swing arm and center stand. I polished up a bunch of bits too. I've got a fork rebuild kit on the way so I'll polish the lower fork tubes, and have them ready to go when it comes in. I've had a minor set back in funds(had to pay the mortgage instead of painting the tank and etc...), hopefully in a week or two I'll be able to buy the rest of my parts. Any ways I'll get some pics up tomorrow and should have some more progress done too.
Stripped the frame, center stand, and swing arm down with aircraft stripper
I cleaned up and primed/painted the swing arm and center stand
While I was waiting for that stuff to dry I did the final body work on the center tube, and did some polishing(did I mention polishing is a bitch and I'm not fond of it?)
once I got that done I put the final layers of primer and paint on
and I put it all next to the wood stove to cook for a while
Hopefully this week I can start getting shit back together!
So I started bolting things back up and I'm getting somewhere slowly. I got one of the forks ready to go, and I'll do the other tonight. I still need to polish the handlbar mounts, and the electronic mount thing. Then I can get it wired up for good and I'm officially on hold for parts and money again. Going to the powder coaters this afternoon to pick up my headlight trim ring and drop off everything else to get finished.
On to some more pics. albeit repetitive it helps to keep me motivated!
before and after
Shaved off the gauge mount tabs since I don't need em(they look like shit to me anyways)
Thanks. I just picked this up from the coaters and left them some parts. I'm not 100% happy with it but it'll pass for now till I can find a chrome plater!
big update! Someones picking up my toy car that I never drive tomorrow so I'l' have plenty of cash to finish this up. Next week it gets painted, the engine is gonna get sent out to bore-tech and once thats back I'll be ready to ride after a few finishing touches! I put my new wiring harness in and ran a bunch of things through the frame. All of my parts are done from the powder coaters so hopefully next week it'll be a full roller again once I get a chance to put new fork seals in. Nothing new for pics. but it should start to really come together over the next few weeks!
would you hate me if I borrowed your fender idea? I wanted to mount my fender to my swing arm because I think that just looks really cool, but I was going to use a hacked up stock fender. However I like your idea much more, and then I can polish it instead of having to paint my crusty old hacked up fender.

Burgle on! Thats what the site is here for inspiration and ideas!
The bike shop gave me the wrong fork seals, so I had to toss the front end back together with the old ones to get it rolling agin for the painters. The up side is I can now tear apart and reassemble the whole front end and do seals in under 30 mins.! The parts I sent out for powder also came back so I tossed me on just to see what it looks like.
I wanted to make up my seat pan before I sent the bike off for a month and a half for paint, so I could get it upholstered while the bikes getting paind. It's rough so I'll smooth out the shape sunday, and it get it out next week.
I dropped off the bike at the painters and there excited about it so it's in good hands. Between that and the engine It'll be about 3 months till its done, the engine builder has an 8-10 week leed time! My buddy has a spare engine I can use to get it finished. The same said buddy also has an 89 katana 1100 with hot cams and pod filters I'm gonna buy to smash around on(next winters project?).
So I'll use all the down time to finish up my shop and gather the rest of the parts I need for this thing.
I'll guess I'll post two pics of the pan I made and the fresh powder on the front end.
Haha that scale ain't mine! I used the pic from the site. Works picked back up along with good weather,so I haven't gotten much done. I did pick up that katana 1100, I was cleaning the shop staring at it yesterday with evil thoughts of cutting it up and making a monster tracker out of it. Hoping for a few rainy days off next week for some more progress.
