By the way, Matt. I'm calling you and Kate out! You guys need to start build threads so I can watch from the comfort of my sofa!

For all of you confused by Matt & I's banter, he took the 3 other 360 project bikes off my hands last week for himself and his lady. He is also working on a sweet BMW R65.

DONE.

Great day! Picked up the tank/headlight bucket/brackets from the painter. I'm pretty pumped about them. I wanted the color to match a guitar I used to have and it's perfect. The knee indents are a flat black.

Game. Over.

There!

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: Paint, front end on

Well, this was going to be a big update, but unforeseen problems got in the way.

First, I finally rebuilt my master cylinder. I need to invest in snap ring pliers that are a bit longer to make the job easier. Going to mask and paint it tomorrow or Thursday.

Afterwards put my newly tapped shocks on and torqued to spec and started focusing on getting the rear wheel back on the bike (no more stand!) and that's when I ran into problems. The final driven sprocket would NOT go back on the wheel. I pounded at that thing for 1.5 hours with my mallet and got it most of the way in save for a 1/4" on one of the bolts. Managed to tear up some paint on the rims while I was at it. I'll work on it more tomorrow. I also discovered that my newly bought stainless nuts for the sprocket were the wrong thread. :-[

Maybe I'll get it off the stand tomorrow night!

Thanks for the comments and motivation, guys. Trying to get this thing finished in the next 2 months.

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: Paint, front end on

I love that tank! Is your sprocket a cush drive? did you maybe put the rubbers on backwards? they go on one way to fit all the way in the wheel, if they are on backwards they are tapered and won't go all the way in.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Yeah, it's a cush drive. I believe the problem is the powdecoating from the sprocket came about 1/4" down the studs and the extra diameter it added is keeping it from seating.

Wouldn't you see some peel from the powder after hammering on it for over an hour? Did you get it out? Do you need my dremmel? Do you enjoy cracked pepper?

Haven't got it out yet. I'm going to buy a torch and try a bit of heat. I don't think the dremel would help because the rest of the stud would still be stuck down there.

I do enjoy cracked pepper, though.

Before seeing this thread, I would of never thought this color should be on a motorcycle-I was wrong -this looks so classy on this bike.

Thanks, man. Even my wife doubted a bit.

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: Paint, front end on

so your sprocket powder is to thick? is that what happend?

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: Paint, front end on

Not sure if i quite understand whats binding up on you but, i had an issue with powder coat on one of my bikes so i used aircraft stripper. I just painted it on with a small paint brush and it ate the powder coat right off.

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: Paint, front end on

That's a very nice build Replica66, the color chosen looks great. One thing though. And maybe it's just me. But that headlight is HUGE, and it's also set too high IMO. The size of the headlight is out of proportion with the rest of the bike. That bike would definetly benefit from a set of clipons. I know you already spent $ and had your heart set on the headlight bucket, but that thing makes the bike look like a skinny dude walking around in speedos while wearing a football helmet. For me, that is the only thing that I would change on it.

Did you solve the sproket issue yet?

The sprocket issue is still unsolved. I'm going to get a 3 ft pry bar today to try and get it back off, clean it, and reseat it. Cafematty came over yesterday and tried to help me get it off. We tried heat and hammers to no avail as well as a clever setup involved a block of wood, socket and clamps.

RE: The headlight. I agree it's set a bit high, and I'd like to run clip-ons, but I really like the color connecting the tank and headlight via the headlight ears. I ordered some small clubmans to see what it'll look like. If I don't like that look, I'm going to build some shorter brackets that will mount the headlight a bit lower and tighter and enable me to run clip-ons. We'll see what happens.

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: Paint, front end on

IMHO the headlight is high but beautiful with those brackets. If the clubmans work out, could you flip the brackets upside down? Where did you source the brackets BTW?
