Terry Naughtin and I had the motor apart again and we decided to go all out. We contacted a racing buddy of his who wrenches for the Laps For Oil team in Los Alamos, NM and they sent us one of their 840cfm superchargers. Kafe Werken out of Stuttgart, Germany fabricated an airbox and intercooler. We bored our the barrels to accept the new 74mm pistons (498cc) but had to do some machining to lower the compression to 8:1. With the bump in displacement and running a modest 6 psi of boost we dynoed at 86 RWHP without the intercooler. Even better is that we have more than 70 ft-lbs of torque from 6300 to almost 9000 RPM. I took it for a spin and it was lifting the wheel with ease in second gear. Tomorrow we plan to mount the intercooler just under the steering head and an oil cooler under the seat. Then we should be safe to run 11 lbs of boost and get 120 HP on pump gas. 14 lbs should put us about 135 HP but we will have to run race fuel for that. Plus, the new dry clutch is on the way since we're at the limits of the stocker.
I want to thank Team Hansen, Laps For Oil, and Kafe for this incredible project.
