raped my paint job

I don't mean to discount what Kong said-automotive paint and clear coat or powdercoating being the way to go if you can afford it and want to do it right, but I used rustoleum on my tank and seat since I'm on a limited budget (i.e. broke), with decent results.

It looks "5 foot good" (good from five feet away) on the tank, even better on the seat (a Roc City fiberglass shell), and is fuelproof enough that dripping gas on it after filling the tank hasn't messed it up yet. They make a few different kinds, I used exterior enamel (or something like that), not the one with patio furniture on the can.

So-it can be done, but don't expect a perfect finish, and by all means do it right if you can afford it.
