"RATTLE CAN" BLING! ...everything is here!

This guy does a gas test and duplicolor perfect match lacquer paint holds up to gas bette than any other clear coat he tests. How is this even possible when lacquer is supposed to be worse for gas resistance than enamel paint??

He didn't let the enamels cure. Lacquer cures and dries at the same time, enamels dry but take 48+ hours to cure. bad test.

he said in the comments he let each one cure according to the directions.

but yeah, i don't expect a laquer paint to stand up to gas better than enamel. Just doesn't quite add up

This is all rattle can on my patio and garage.
Spray max 2k primer, cure 24 hours
Black = Duplicolor perfect match universal Black
Green = Marbles motors, Silver - base w Honda Candy Emerald Green - top coat

Give 24 hours for Clear to cure...
Wet sand = 1500 - 2000
Soft Polish = Meguiars 105 and Ultra Polishing Wax

3 days later hard polish...

I for one am going to be really interested to hear how that 2K holds up to engine heat Trek. Please keep us posted

That's the price I pay at Napa as well.

$32 locally at Napa. (Vancouver suburbs, BC)

"best i can do is $30". Nothing annoys me more than these special BS pricing policies at local auto parts stores here like Napa or Lordco. You can go to 5 different stores, using the same product and discount and still get 5 different prices. It's one of the reasons i've stopped buying anything car/truck/motorbike locally.

Beauty paint work. Damn!!

I bought dupli-color perfect match as well to do my tank with! How much did you get done with that one, small can?
I bought 1 can, but now i am thinking i might need two to do the whole tank. Especially if i have to wet sand and re-apply somewhere

The paint is a laquer, so can be re-applied any time, right? Even if i run out on 1 can?

Basically went through a whole can of primer, and the primer was not a small can like the perfect match.

1 can of perfect match should do a tank. I used 2 to do a tank, side covers and a front fender on a magna. Then 1 can of 2k did all those bits in a deep coat

Good to hear! 2 light coats and 1 heavy, i assume?

I went through almost all of the primer in the big can doing two light coats and two heavy.
I'm afraid if i have to do any wet sanding i'm going to go right through the paint.

I did wet sand the primer'd tank today a little and it went OK with 800 grit and very light pressure :)

If you are doing 2K clear over the perfect match you shouldn't need to sand the colour coat at all and only wet sand and polish the Clear at the end. If you use 2K make sure you wear a respirator, coveralls, gloves and eye protection. that shit is nasty.

Made a start on prepping Scruffy’s tank

stripped paint, sanded, test primer, filled, sanded, test primer, filled again

the tank has been repaired previously, dents beated out and filled.

i’ll not get it perfect but half decent hopefully !

for reference, it was between 300 and 500 to paint a tank here professionally, without them doing any prep work like body filler.
Considering i wasn't picky on color, i was really hoping someone was going to tell me like $100 just to throw it in the booth when they're spraying a car.

The perfect match is the black you see. I did both side covers and cowl. Still had some left over in the can.
never heard of anyone sanding the color coat. Im not sure that would be the best idea???
I just clear very heavy...sand the clear coat only.

I know, but I will likely get a bug of some type flying onto the wet paint. Usually happens when painting something important. Lol
