rd shifter kart idea

So......I guess that I'm the only one who had a picture, of an off-road cart with 10 feet of roost, in his head.

I used to race these

250cc Rotax IC/E Superkarts. Raced against a couple of guys you may have heard of, Wayne Rainey and Eddie Lawson. They had Eddie's dad as a wrench and got some nice 'factory' TZ 250 engines. We ran at the Streets of Willow and on the big track. On the big track we'd hit about 135mph, which really got your attention in kart. I did the Laguna event but only got two laps in practice when I stuck a piston and scored my cylinder. Weekend was done.

Karts are stupid fun. My cousin had a total bodge job RD250 that would scare the crap out of me (it was a REAL bodge job; if you went WOT you had to remember to pull back on the pedal as it would get stuck wide open... among other issues). It was a damn hoot though. We would take it around the streets of Gozo, Malta slowly until we hit the heliport where our family owns fields and the roads are all unused in the off season. Wish I had some pictures of it... Maybe he still has it...

Always wanted to race karts. Too bad all of the privileged kids (kids with gear head fathers) get good before they hit 10 years of age... Both my coworkers raced karts for years and I can't even come close to them on the track once they shake the rust off. Granted one of them went on to race 911's and some other nice cars, but still; karters can drive!

In one of my many searches for anything and everything GR650, I came across an ad on Craigslist for a custom cart with a GR motor in it. The seller said it was scary fast - as Hoof would know obviously.

Are ya done building it yet Brad?

this is gonna be fun but im not gonna go get it till the rd metal work is done

Out in the garage I have an ancient screwdriver. It belonged to my great grandfather. It started life out as a file. When it had served its life as a file it was reshaped into a screwdriver. I often wonder when I die will I be recycled?

How about an old pushmower that when the engine died and was removed became a flat-bed garden cart. I used to drag the thing to the top of the drive and ride it down into the yard like a push-cart. Quite the multipurpose machine.

My other favorite saying was, "Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise." Getting harder to do the older I get.

Good times.

Damn near impossible these days. The only time I'm up early anymore is for a record return run at Bonneville.

ITS CRAZY , ITS NUTS , YOU"LL POKE YOUR EYE OUT , AND I LIKE IT !!!!!

I really learned motors and mechanics from karting, I managed an indoor kart track for 8 years and custom kart building / setup. 125cc shifters, rotax.. so much fun being that low and being able to change and adjust things so easily. If you need any bits and pieces, hit me up, I have a lot of friends with way too many spair parts or parts from sponsors from previous seasons that they can no longer use to race with.

I probably shouldn't let Brad know that I sold a pair of TD3/RD race pipes a couple of years ago. They were the sexiest pipes I have owned as the curved over the clutch side, one above the other.

A racer buddy of mine had an Aprilia AF1 with that Rotax in line twin. It was crazy fast for a 250. Right on 90hp on the dyno.

Im gonna need a used set of wheels and old heat cycled tires so im may take ya up on that. teazer i still love ya ;). Here is a picture of the frame it is still at a buddys but i was over there so.. its gonna be a tight fit

I'm thinking we may want to scoot the seat an inch or two to the left (away from the motor) for balance. RD lumps are light. Lockard isn't. Haha...

Would probably be better to flip axle and move motor to left side, moving seat to right
