Re: 72' Suzuki GT380 (She Lives!!!)

Ill probably make some type of cap that has a long vent tube that runs to the bottom (now top) of the bottle so oil wont spill out, im trying to avoid drilling the glass and didnt really want a hole at the top of the bottle where water could sneak in. Definitely going to look at hackin up a bicycle water bottle holder, thanks bro!

just be extra careful with your mounting position...you don't want smashed glass and oil everywhere if you ever lay the bike down (fingers crossed that never happens!

Put that glass bottle back on the shelf or recycle the glass. Glass will break on a bike. Our old bikes shake rattle and roll and vibration etc will kill that bottle. You could grab a small plastic oil tank from US Plastics that would fit back to back with your air filter housing.

If you want something more special, fabricate a relatively shallow tank that fits under the seat. Think Book. almost as wide as the frame rails and say 2" deep it would be almost impossible and you could weld stand offs on the top surface to mount the electrics on it. It can be made out of steel - cheap and easy to weld or Aluminum which is a little harder to weld.

Funny you mention glass breaking from vibration- have you picked up any chopper magazines lately? It's the new trend. Glass float bowls, glass velocity stacks, glass portholes in fuel and oil tanks.... And if you think our old bikes vibrate, sit on a shovelhead at idle some time. Lol. Not arguing, just noting that with some proper preparation, like some soft rubber mounting, it can be done. But I agree, it's risky. All it takes is a stone getting kicked up from the road and there goes your complete oil supply.

Haven't posted here in awhile, lots of changes in the past year, moved, divorce, blah blah etc. The bike hasn't gotten much attention and is still at the point of my last build update. Thanks for the input about mounting my oil bottle. Anyways I missed u guys! lol

long time coming and i'm guna tare it down and redo maybe this winter or I might do a gs, I have a spare set of folk's need to use?

How is the performance with those? I had Wirges chambers on my 380, and they performed very well, but the center section on yours look a lot shorter by comparison. The stainless construction is very nice, though.

Finally back at it and this is how she sits now, New shocks, clip ons, biltwell natural gum grips, welded in the seat pan, extended the wiring harness, mounted all electronics and battery under the tail, mounted the seat and mounted the taillight. And then the nylon points gear broke.. Anyone got one layin around lemme know!

JoeT , Where's the oil tank now? Under the seat or in the tank? Or did you modify the crank to run on pre-mix?

Teaser, right now I still have to permanently mount the oil bottle, currently there's just a small bottle temporarily zip tied to the right side of the frame. I still plan on mounting and using a small jack Daniels bottle.

Try US Plastics. They have a range of small fluid containers that work well as oil tanks. http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=24889&catid=934

You can still get the nylon timing gear new from Suzuki. Try your local dealer. Not very expensive, either.
