Liking the silver clean look on this bike, but I'm sure mine will be more rat cafe dirty, and not as polished
that bike is great inspiration

Looking nice and clean from up top... do I want to dive in deep?

those cam faces look kinda worn to me, my old 750 honda was the same when i popped the top off, it won't make a huge difference but while you've got it apart you may as well get it right, its also a great excuse to have it reground to a hotter spec

Crap, that's what I was talking about. If only I knew what you meant....ha! I agree, If I'm going to tear it down, I mind as well do it right, barring the cost won't be crazy. Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the lag in updates. They'll be starting up tomorrow, as my high busy time of the season is over for 6 more months.

Today was a productive day. Motor came out, frame stripped down (less the stuck kick-stand), and now I'm ready to get started on breaking down the motor. It doesn't even really need it, as it was driving decent before, but I've got month of snowy roads before I get the chance to take her out, so mind as well...

Nice work so far man:) I really liked that seat you posted, been looking for something like that for a while myself.

Ugh... can't get the freaking kick stand off, the last f'in thing stuck to the frame. Been slamming with a sledge even.

That bolt that you just smashed the threads on is actually threaded into the kick stand. You have to remove it with a socket or impact from the other side...but you'll have to get creative now that the threads are screwed up.

Cut off the smashed part and then take it out from the back side

:-[ Yeah, sometimes I'm an idiot. Guess I didn't expect it to be bolted from both sides. Thanks for that, just got it freed. Hopefully didn't kill the female threads on it's way through

oops, never mind we all do that sort of thing now and again (well i do anyway)

I'm watching with interest..............................my 74 is all original, never even had the carbs off, the original exhaust is gone of course.

Still has the original factory tires, 2800 original miles.....not sure if I want to tear into it, or leave it and ride the heck out of it.

Wow, impressive. The engine was strong before I started, but figure I've got a few months before I can ride. Did you remove your tank badge, or just missing it? I have an extra if you need...

They were removed, the side badges too. I've got all the so called tins removed and primered, waiting for paint.

Today was engine crackin day. Got it apart to check into everything
What do you guys think of the condition of the pistons & valves? I was just going to change the rings, but open for what I might be missing, and you guys might see. Do I need to replace anything? Should I just scrape and clean?

Test the valves for leaks, and clean up the top of the cylinders and the combustion chambers with a brass brush on your Dremel at the very least

Yea a small wire brush and scotch brit pad & carb cleaner will clean those if you have to scrap be care full not to dig in to the surface also after you remove the rings break one (with gloves on) and use it to clean out the rin groves

Great, will do. If everything was running fine before, what do you guys suggest I do with the engine as I'm breaking it down? I know I have to pull the stator to fix the starter clutch bearings, but anything you guys suggest I do? You know, first build, so want to do what's right, but don't want to do anything that's unnecessary...

Keep you clutch on the old oil while it out of the engine ball hone the cylinders
