Sakura the Sake Rocket

Thanks to all!

So I had a flange welded onto the little Riverside tank and I am scratching out my design for a one off fuel cap that will tie into the shifter linkage arm visually. Also gone are the yucky pinch welds along the bottom edge.
The fuel cap is a simple design to get done....just need my tools and machines at hand. They are still spread across the state, but hopefully here soon.

Thanks mate. The project isn't dead, I've been struggling with life crap.
New post on the blog, will endeavor to get that back up and running...

Wow, just wow Swagger, just spent an hour or two going through this build. Seriously jealous, starting to think i picked the wrong field of work, wish i had the skills and resources to pull even a fraction of this off. Cant wait to follow more progress!

Hiya pal, hope your Holidays were great!

I just pulled out my shotbag and hammers, I was going to glass up a seat pan but I think she needs a lovely polished aluminum seat pan under the deer hide I will be using for upholstery. It'll have solo seat...uhh....butt portion and a little "nut bustle" part too but will cover the frame rails because solos on sprung frame are pretty lame.

I'm also reworking my design on the shift handle. My initial tube handle will go away once the seat is in place and the bars are bent, then it'll get the REAL shifter handle. Thatjust means I'm gonna mill up something nifty to replace what's there....

So there you have it!

Hey thanks gents, very much.

She's still unfortunately down the list as I have the XV to wrap up for the spring since I got cheated out of the last two seasons other than short hops. I normally rack up 10,000mi or so a year.....it's been lame.

haha..no really, she's down on the list a ways.......
Except that I got a nice break, traded a nice clean XS650 front end to a new buddy for an equally nice CB500 front end which has the shorter sliders that will allow me to eek out a few inches of front travel with the 21" and stoopid lowering. Yeehaw! Pics as soon as I can....in the mean time I can get the tapered bearings in and the fork lowering done.

I haven't built the wheels yet but I have the originals still so at least she'll be a roller again soon! So.....maybe I will work on her too.

Thanks mate, it's funny how a little thing can revamp one's interest. I roughed out my aluminum seat pan today, I'll finish the hammer and bag work tomorrow I hope then it's off to LittleHorse Cycles (my pal Andrew) to see if I can steal some time on his English wheel.

No REALLY really....she's on the back burner.

I have a commission build coming up and need to get Sakura off the table, but I didn't want to crate her up....that seemed kinda sad. So she's gotta be a roller by Monday though I'm shooting for today so I can clean up the shop space really well.

I got hold of some *decent* CB500 forks and ground out the triples then added tapered bearings. The shorter sliders on the CBforks (rather than the looong XS650 pogos) will allow a few inches of travel still so that's good.

I must have missed it somewhere in the build...How did you make that Jockey shift with built in clutch lever work? I am wanting to do something similar with my rebel 450 project...

oh and SICK build...sad you have to put her aside for the time being...

Yeah the blog suffered in the down time but we're starting to make headway again.

Thanks, it's ok. Truth is I need to get my 920 wired up too so there's just other stuff that's gotta be done. I machined the jockey shifter setup myself. I can make you one!

Roller!

Just read though the entire thread on your bike. Really digging the finned parts you've turned out for it, found myself some stock a couple days ago and now see what to use it for... Had a similar idea for my seat, but I'm cheating and using a perfectly sized/shaped unit off an exercise machine... fits the CL72 frame rails like it was made for it...

Going to be following this one pretty close, bookmarked your blog as well. Excellent work.
