Salzburg '73 CB350 - Summer Riding Update

Re: Salzburg '73 CB350 - Update: fabricating custom stainless exhaust

A bit more progress on the exhaust last night. Cut, sand, test fit, cut again, more sanding, fitting... seems to take a long time for just 24" of pipe.

Re: Salzburg '73 CB350 - Update: fabricating custom stainless exhaust

Need some help on muffler positions. I can either mount it low and tucked up tight to the swingarm (at full droop) or I can mount it higher, but I might have less clearance when leaned over.

It almost seems like I have more clearance when mounted low.

I can see issues with supporting it if I keep moving the muffler towards the back (higher angle & better clearance). I really don't like the idea of a super long strap from the top spring mount to help support the weight.

Thoughts?

High mount, more ground clearance and looks sportier IMO.

Don't forget that the peg bar crossed right there sir.

Re: Salzburg '73 CB350 - Update: fabricate custom stainless exhaust - need opinions

I'd go with the high mount and run your support to the footpeg bracket.

Re: Salzburg '73 CB350 - Update: fabricate custom stainless exhaust - need opinions

yup ide go with killerx too go high n secure to footpeg mount looks more aggresive too nice 8) coming on great style mate ;)

I checked again and it seems like I'm fine for clearance with it mounted high. I'd hit the foot peg at the same time as dragging the muffler. When I checked foot peg clearance many months ago the bike was damn near on the ground before the peg was dragging.

Also I can get the oil drain plug out just fine. Which is what I was aiming for.

How are you going to make your joint connectors, bolts, clamps,? Your merge collector looks good, properly done. Two into one systems sound great too.

I'll use springs on the collector and a hose clamp for the muffler. I still have to fab the hangers from the foot peg for the muffler.

Exhaust welded and sanded by Matthias Salzburg, on Flickr

Right pipe is welded, ground flush, sanded (80, 120, 240, 320, 400, 600) and polished. The other two have only been sanded with 80. Muffler is mounted off the rear set bracket. Retainer springs will be added to the collector.

Both headers and the collector have been final sanded and polished. The muffler still needs a bit of work. Plus a hose clamp to secure it to the collector.

I've got it back on the stand and will hopefully be doing wiring in the next week.

Had some fun and weighed my stock exhaust with the new stainless version.

7lb 4oz
vs.
21lb 6oz

Over 14 lbs removed. 66% weight savings. 8)

Your attention to detail is incredible. Keep up the amazing work! :D

Re: Salzburg '73 CB350 - Update: fabricate custom 2-1 exhaust - polishing stainless

That turned out excellent. We need to get back on our 350. It's been sitting idel for about a month. Mainly due to laziness.

Re: Salzburg '73 CB350 - Update: exhaust finished - more wiring harness fabrication

Superb build.

Mind if I ask where you ordered your wiring sheathing? Exactly what I am looking for.
