Nice start!!!! I love the look of the longer cowl. I'm still kicking around shape ideas for my GL1000. I can't settle on one that I like. Haha.

I shortened my frame loop by 2 inches and that's my length I tried to match the flow of the frame lines with the seat pan
I have a feelin this is just a rough skeleton and I plan on doing wood inlay for strength on seat area
and maybe do racing stripes in wood
Wood has a vintage feel
With my flat black and original green sparkle paint scheme and copper metallic accents

If I were going to incorporate wood, I would to wood grain racing stripes. But definitely reinforce the bottom of your seat pan with wood or sheet metal. I think what I'm going to do for mine is cut down the original pan so that I have my stock mounts, and then build on it. That way I have the stability and strength of the original seat, but be a racing style seat and cowl. Currently I have a simple banana seat on my current bike until I have the time to focus on making the new seat and cowl. Below is my current project as it sits.
