sr 250 cafe - rachel - completed with pictures

Re: sr 250 cafe - rachel

Cheers for the battery info. So make it plain clear to me, I don't need extra circuitry there? Just plug and play in place of acid batter?
And those nitroheads seat is made for sr400/500? It will fit on 250?

plug and play for the battery. the seat will require some frame modification, I'll see how it goes for me and you can follow the progress here.

sweet exhaust - got a source?

good info on the batteries, ive seen those a123s being used a bit lately

Re: sr 250 cafe - rachel

Where did you buy the batteries? Mong Kok? I'm looking to replace the battery on my bobber for something lighter, my new fender is way heavy and I want to shave some weight off in other places

hi guys, i stopped using lead acid batteries ages ago they are shit and leak everywhere. these are 123A lipo4 cells and they are quite literally tiny. a quick google search should spew up a ton of info. they are wired in parallel to keep the voltage at a nominal 13.2V and they work way better than traditional batteries at a fraction of the weight. for everything <600cc 4 cells should do, but if you go bigger you will need 8 cells. they are wired like this, from one end through to the other end, negative to positive to negative to positive to negative etc. its called a 4s1p confiquration. the 4s denominating the cells and the 1p the parallel wiring.

these are also available commercialy under the name antigravity batteries and a few others, exact same thing except its covered in shrink wrap and the price has been quadrupled. you can buy A123 cells on ebay, most guys ship for free and i think some guys will solder the packs up for you if you tell them what you want.

i'm no electrics whizz, but ive always used these batteries and they are the dogs bollocks.

excellent info on the batts! gonna go ebaying asap!

Re: sr 250 cafe - rachel

ok guys here is an update. i finally have a roller. got the drums polished up, rebuilt and re-jetted the carb have the new rear shocks mounted with new bushing swingarms, front forks painted and gaitors (forkboots) on. my mate managed to get the dent out of the tank with compressed air (don't have a pic, but if you look at the previous pics there is one with the tank lying next to the bike and you can see the dent, previous owner put a sticker over it, as they do). super stoked it came out because it was a fucking huge dent, busy prepping the tank for paint now.

still need to sort out most of the electrics, mount the new speedo, tank, seat, exhaust and bars. glad i have a rolling chassis though, certainly feels more like a complete bike again.

i'm really shit at updating pics and i appologise for that. i'm also not the type to post pictures of myself grinding the tabs off the frame with sparks flying. anyway, it was raining today, but i snuk out to get some shots.

I love that stance. Are they standard rear shocks? Carb looks schmick!

Re: sr 250 cafe - rachel

chain is D.I.D and the rear shocks are aftermarket. they are 2 inches or 5cm longer than the standard ones. because of the extra length I had to modify the rear brake as it would hit the swing arm otherwise.

Re: sr 250 cafe - rachel

Re: sr 250 cafe - rachel

just mucking about here, but this is the very professional mock-up of my nitroheads seat! if only i didn't have to 9-5 and i could build bikes all day this bike would be done by now. still need to chop and weld the frame to make the seat fit. got a feeling the rear end might be a bit high with the longer shocks, hope it won't ruin the lines. can't actually place the nitroheads seat flat on the bike as it touches the rear tailsection of the frame. need to chop the frame for a proper mock-up. hopefully this weekend! ;)

Re: sr 250 cafe - rachel

Hi swivel

Thanks for the input, would I be correct in assuming by lifting the front up a bit I would correct this? I have the front stanchions dropped quite a bit through the fork clamps..

Re: sr 250 cafe - rachel

I have a sr250 also with the forks slid up the trees about an inch and a half. I'm 6' 200lbs stock pegs and mx bars and it runs great. If anything, better then it did. I do hit the exhaust and pegs all the time tho. My forks do need a rebuild so I'm sure that's not helping. Hope that helps
